Borealis Philanthropy is excited to announce the re-launch of our Immigration Litigation Fund (ILF), which is accepting applications on a rolling basis from July 9 through December 1, 2018.
Begun in 2015, the ILF is a national funder collaborative whose goal is to ensure that the nation’s immigration enforcement system is fair, humane, and prioritizes the civil and human rights of those vulnerable to deportation.
In 2018, the ILF will continue to support impact litigation efforts challenging immigration enforcement policies and practices that are inhumane, unjust, and unlawful. In addition to support for impact litigation, the ILF will also support convenings, advocacy, organizing, and communications related to impact litigation efforts.
“We know that the current administration’s recent practice of separating and detaining families is part of a long history of cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrant communities,” said Heidi Dorow, Director of Immigration Initiatives at Borealis Philanthropy. “We believe that investing in impact litigation is one of the most effective ways to challenge and change unjust policies and practices and to provide a measure of justice to people harmed by this system.”
Since its launch, the ILF has provided more than $3 million in funding to over 60 grantees.
Grantees supported by the ILF have sued on behalf of immigrants forced to work for little or no pay in immigration detention facilities, brought litigation on behalf of young immigrants facing deportation as a result of the cancellation of the DACA program, and worked on many other immigration enforcement related issues.
The ILF is a collaborative effort of the Ford Foundation, JPB Foundation, NoVo Foundation, Open Society Foundation, Reis Foundation, and Anonymous Donors.
