Erin Black began crocheting as a child after learning to love yarn by admiring her Granny-made afghans that arrived every Christmas. Trained in interior design, she uses her expertise to create sculptural yarn art that translates seamlessly into classic and modern settings alike. Booklist Review

Just in time for winter, Black gives readers ideas for filling their homes with warm and decorative KIY (knit it yourself) woolens. What makes her first book especially appealing is the speed with which objects can be crafted, using big needles (from U.S. 15 to 50) and thick or lofty yarns. For the most part, designs are aimed at intermediate knitters, with a few geared to beginners (such as a simple stockinette cocoon blanket) and experienced hands (baby's hexagon throw blanket). Project presentation consists of skill level, yarn and needles, gauge, special techniques, abbreviations, stitches, and, of course, directions. Truly helpful for newbies are the robust appendixes on stitches and techniques, abbreviations, yarn types and varieties, and knitting needle sizes.
