2023 Children’s Summer Reading Program

Children from Pre-K to 6th Grade can sign up for our Children’s Summer Reading Program beginning June 12!

Which challenge should my child enroll in?

Babies & Toddlers
Birth – Age 3
Caregivers of babies & toddlers will complete a series of early literacy activities with their child.

Kids
Preschool 4 – 6th grade
Read, or be read to, for 20 minutes a day. Every 7 days of reading earns a prize.

Prizes!
There are separate prizes and Grand Prize Raffles for each program:

Babies & Toddlers

    • Complete all 4 activities in a column to earn a sticker
    • Complete the entire sheet and pick a rubber ducky, and get a raffle entry!

Kids
Every 7 days of reading earns a prize.

    • Prize 1-3: Pick a prize from our treasure chest
    • Prize 4: Pick a finishing prize, get a raffle entry, and your name on our Reading Champs wall.
    • Prizes 5-7: Pick a prize from our treasure chest, and receive an additional raffle entry.

Important Dates

    • Registration begins June 12.
    • First prizes will be distributed beginning June 19.
    • Monday, July 31, 2023 is the deadline to enter the Grand Prize Raffle, but logs may be submitted for other prizes until August 11.
    • Raffle winners will be announced on August 4.

Sculpture Contest

Sculptures due: 4:30pm, Friday, July 14
Voting: Monday, July 17 – Friday, July 21
Winners Announced: July 25
Grades pre-K – 6

Construct something that you would like to see in your community from recyclable materials (it can be something practical or fantasy), measuring no more than 2 by 2 feet. Sculptures larger than these measurements will be displayed but not eligible for a prize.

Your sculpture will be displayed in the library and judged by patrons. This year there will be winners in 3 age categories: PreK-K, 1st-3rd, and 4th-6th grades.

Winners will be notified, and winning sculptures will be features on the Library’s Facebook account.

Please pick up your project by August 12 or it will be recycled.

All Together Now for 100 Years

Wednesday, June 21st 4:30pm-7:30pm
All Ages
A FREE community event celebrating “All Together Now for 100 Years” at the Phillipsburg Free Public Library! Featuring: Touch a Truck, face painting, teen cupcake wars, ice-cream, crafts, community gardening, games, prizes, and a visit by celebrity cats Seraphina and Poe.


Little Movers

Mondays at 10am
Ages 6 months – 2 years old
An active program of rhymes, music, play, and stories for babies and their adult caregivers. Little Movers lasts approximately 20 minutes and is a perfect introduction to the library for our smallest patrons.

Storytime

Thursdays at 10am & 11am
Ages 2-5 years

Our Storytime programs are filled with stories, flannel boards, songs, and fun! Each storytime lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Storytime with ShopRite

Thursdays at 10am
Ages 2-5 years

Our Storytime program gets a special guest! Dietician Kaysha from ShopRite will join us for a special snack. Registration is required.

Craft Connection

Tuesdays 1pm – 3pm
Grades 1-6

Come and go during this open-house style pop-up craft in the children’s room. Craft, Connect, Community!

  • July 18 – Thank you cards for community helpers (Fire, Police, EMS)
  • July 25 – Friendship bracelets

STEAM Sessions

Wednesdays at 2pm
Grades 1-6

A little science goes a long way in this summer’s STEAM program! Registration is required.

Hooked on Yarn

Mondays at 11am
Grades 3-6

Sip some lemonade and see what art you can make with yarn. Crochet, knit, yarn canvas art, and more!

Eyes of the Wild

Come join Eyes of the Wild Rescue & Education for a LIVE wildlife presentation! Join us for a fun, fascinating, and educational look at some of the amazing creatures with whom we share our world, and explore endless possibilities that exist when you “L.E.A.P. Into Wildlife”!
