Being an irregular and incomplete list of comics and comics-adjacent happenings in Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill and beyond.
May 2019
My name is Patrick Holt, and I'm a librarian at Durham County Library, specializing in all things comics and graphic novels! If you're getting this,I've probably met you through Durham Comics Fest or elsewhere in the comics-making community. This here is my newsletter where I attempt to gather info on nearby happenings that might interest comics makers and other comics-adjacent folks out there. I hope you enjoy it!
If you want to unsubscribe, send me a lead, ask a question, or just say hi, email me at pdholt@dconc.gov.

HAPPENING NOW AND SOON and soon-ish:
*** TCCN Comics Anthology now accepting submissions! ***
The TCCN (Triangle Comics Creator Network) Comics Anthology is a new publication designed to showcase comics made by creators of all ages and experience levels who live in and around Durham, Orange, and Wake Counties. (You DO NOT need to be a member of TCCN to submit, but you can find out more about the group at meetup.com/Triangle-Comics-Creator-Network.)
The deadline for submissions is August 15, 2019, and you can find guidelines and submission instructions at durhamcomicsfest.org/tccn-anthology.
Duke's Nasher Museusm presents a groundbreaking exhibit exploring Pop Art as created by artists spanning the entire Western Hemisphere! Lots of work that explores the concerns, aesthetics, and techniques of mass media, and (to my recollection) only one minor Lichtenstein, so all the cartoonists out there can breathe easy. Also keep an eye out for a piece of video art that uses lot of comic book-derived onomatopoeia as its visual motif!
