Event Details

Please join us on this date when our special guest will be Marcie J. Keithley, an author, speaker, and coach.  She is the author of the soon-to-be released memoir, The SHOEBOX Effect: Transforming Pain into Fortitude and Purpose.

Keithley is Vice President of HEAR, Hoosiers for Equal Access to Records and its sister organization, Indiana Adoption Network.  She has been involved in the support of open records since 2008 when she was reunited with the daughter she surrendered to adoption in 1978.

Today, she is a voice for countless mothers who cannot speak for themselves.  Contrary to belief, mothers who relinquished their babies during the closed adoption era were not given "choices."  There was no such thing as an adoption plan, open adoption, or the exchange of information or pictures.  Mothers such as Keithley, were told to "pretend it never happened."

Keithley's shoebox contained a secret, one she kept for decades.  Her story has been reported globally on major networks and in newspapers across the country.  Now known as the Shoebox Sherpa, she helps people to open their own shoeboxes and face the truths about their past and subsequently find freedom and ultimately peace of mind.

After Keithley's presentation, which also includes a 10-minute video and a reading, she will be selling copies of her book for $13.99.

Light refreshments will be provided, courtesy of Keithley.
