Event Details

Join author and educator Tim Waggoner for Horror Writing Workshop "Let's Get Scary"! Learn how to write stories that frighten readers and keep them turning the pages. Topics covered include:
  • The difference between dread, terror, horror, disgust, and shock.
  • Avoiding clichés.
  • Making your horror personal.
  • Taking new approaches to old archetypes.
  • What, if any, are the limits in horror fiction?
  • Writing suspenseful prose. 
The workshop is free, but registration is necessary to ensure adequate seating. 

Waggoner has published close to fifty novels and seven collections of short stories. He writes dark fantasy, horror, and media tie-ins, and he teaches creative writing at Sinclair College in Dayton. In 2017 he received the Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in Long Fiction, and he's been a multiple finalist for both the Shirley Jackson Award and the Scribe Award.
