Digital materials costs are driven by usage. Publishers of eBooks charge the Library by the number of customer downloads. Therefore, digital materials such as eBooks and eAudiobooks are only available to Carrollton resident cardholders, paid Non-Resident cardholders, and School Staff cardholders.
Check with your hometown library for a free card to access their eBooks and other digital materials if you are not a resident of Carrollton.
Note: First, make sure your mobile device is updated to the most recent version of the OS if possible. If your mobile device's OS is older than what is required by the current cloudLibrary app, then you may be offered the option to download an older version of the app.

In the History section:
*Check back in the History section periodically to see if Suggest button changes to Borrow.
You can return eBooks and eAudiobooks before the due date which allows you to check out another title.
As of June 1, 2017, Carrollton Public Library partnered with a group of other Texas libraries to loan eBooks and eAudiobooks to each other's library cardholders. This is called cloudLink.
There are over 50,000 unique titles with over 120,000 copies available in our cloudLink lending group.
If an eBook we own is being used by one of our cardholders, the other libraries can't see it. When it is available with no holds, it is then visible through the cloudLibrary apps to the other group libraries and they can check it out.
In the same way, you can see and borrow titles that are available from the other libraries in the group.
This partnership gives you, our eBook readers, access to many thousands of titles that we did not buy. A wider selection means more of you will find something you like.
If you did not find an eBook or eAudiobook in the catalog, try searching the title or author in the cloudLibrary app including the cloudLibrary web app. You may find it appears thanks to one of our library partners.
I saw an eBook that I wanted to read, but now it's gone!
There are 2 reasons why an eBook or eAudiobook might "disappear" from cloudLibrary:
cloudLibrary Assist is a module added at the same time as cloudLibrary Checkout. It gathers EVERYTHING you check out from us in one place.
The cloudLibrary app will display your borrowed physical items in the My Books Current section along with any checked out eBooks or eAudiobooks.
Any physical items checked out will also show in the History section of My Books in the app once they have been returned
Any holds on physical items will show in the Holds section of My Books in the app along with any holds on eBooks or eAudiobooks and will display "Available for pick-up" message when they are ready on the holdshelf for you
An alert reading "Holds available for pick-up!" will display on the cloudLibrary app's home screen when a hold on a physical item is ready for you to stop by the Library to borrow it
To check out eBooks and eAudiobooks you must:
If you see one of the errors below
while
then there is a problem with your Library account which you can usually detect by LOGGING IN TO YOUR ACCOUNT and checking the items listed below.
When you set up a new phone or other device from a backup, sometimes there is an issue with the Adobe account underneath your cloudLibrary account registering.
If you see this error message...
..follow these instructions:
If you see a message about reaching the Adobe device limits like the one below, then you have already reached the SIX device limit.
This limit can be reached even if you have not used 6 devices. Every time you uninstall and reinstall the app and log in on the same device that counts as ANOTHER device activation.
Complete the reset form linked below. You will NOT receive a reply to your reset request. Your device should be reset within 48 business hours of the request.
A "Parse Error" may indicate your device is too old to be compatible with the cloudLibrary app.
First verify that your device is among the supported devices. If so, check for updates to your device’s software. If you continue to receive a “Parse Error” after updating the device's software, it is likely that your device is no longer supported. Contact the Library to confirm this.
If you are buying a tablet or eReader and plan to download Carrollton Public Library eBooks, then choose a supported device.
cloudLibrary eBooks are NOT currently supported by Amazon on their dedicated eReaders such as the Paperwhite. Only Kindle Fire tablets are compatible with Carrollton Public Library eBooks.
If you buy an eReader that is not supported, you can still read or listen to cloudLibrary titles on your iPhone, Android phone, or using the web app on your computer.
No. Some print books may never appear as eBooks; some titles are only published as eBooks and never as print books. Also, some eBooks are not available for purchase by libraries.
For you, the consumer, they will be, but not for libraries. The Library can usually buy a printed book for a fraction of the cost of the same title as an eBook.
The price you see for an eBook is NOT the same price a library must pay. This is because the publisher expects to get a higher price for an eBook that we will lend out many times. Most eBooks and eAudiobooks cost the Library a lot more money than what you would pay.
In addition, most publishers have restrictions on the number of times or how long an item is available for you to borrow, 1 year or 2 years, before the title license expires and is no longer available for us to lend to you.
Here are some examples of some of these terms, (some publishers have different terms for different imprints):
Project Gutenberg is one of many free eBook sites providing access to books in the public domain that are no longer subject to copyright. We link to almost 300 free eBooks from Project Gutenberg. Mostly classic literature, these books can be found in our online catalog and then downloaded or read online through a link in the catalog record.
Information is available on reading Project Gutenberg eBooks on your mobile reading device.
The easiest way to get a free eBook on a dedicated eReader is through the store for your eReader:
If your eReader store does not offer a free version of a book that is available from Project Gutenberg, then follow Project Gutenberg's directions for your device. It may require you to connect your eReader to a computer to do the download.
