Lewis University History Professor Dr. Mark Schultz will share from his first book, “The Rural Face of White Supremacy: Beyond Jim Crow,” which was designated an Editor’s Choice by The Atlantic Monthly. This study examines the daily experience of life under Jim Crow, the degree of freedom and unfreedom that African Americans experienced after the end of slavery, and the ambiguous ways that black and white people interacted as neighbors. The study was drawn from hundreds of interviews with black and white residents of one Georgia County.
