Horseshoe Suncatchers
These decorative items are fun and easy to make. The only tool you need is a pair of needle nose pliers.
Supplies List
- One clean horseshoe (Find someone that has a used horseshoes they are willing to give you. Or you can buy one new at most feed stores.)
- 22-gauge wire cut to desired lengths
- Glass beads of various sizes and colors We are using glass beads and crystals for our suncatchers. (Amazon has many sizes and styles and crystals. Or check your local thrift store for old chandeliers that you can take apart.
- Teardrop crystals (optional)
How It’s Done
- Select the beads that you like and lay out in a pattern.
- Once you have a pattern you are happy with, string the beads and crystals onto the wire in the order that you have them laid out.
- At the end of the line of beads fold the wire back on itself and make several wraps around to secure.
- Attach the other end of the wire to the horseshoe. Feed it through one of the holes and wrap it back on itself (the wire) to secure to the horseshoe.
- Use additional wire to wrap on the horseshoe as an extra decoration.
- Continue until you obtain the look you want, and you have enough glass beads and crystals on your project to catch the sun. You can add as many strings of beads as you like.
- When you are happy with the look of your suncatcher, find a good spot to display it, and hang it up. It can be displayed inside or outside.
