Library Awarded PLA Funding for Digital Literacy Workshops
The Butler Area Public Library is among over 160 public libraries nationwide awarded funding by the Public Library Association (PLA) to conduct digital literacy workshops using Digitallearn.org resources. The PLA Digital Literacy Workshop Incentive, supported by AT&T, provides support to libraries of all sizes to conduct digital literacy training in their communities and help close the digital divide.
“We’re very grateful for this opportunity to expand our digital instruction services,” said Butler Area Public Library Director Lori Hinderliter. “Library visitors ask for help with basic computer and internet tasks almost daily. In the past, group instruction hasn’t been practical and lessons have been limited to one-on-one sessions when staff are available. With the Digital Literacy Workshop Incentive, we’ll be able to hold small classes both in and outside of the library.”
All sessions are free of cost and will appeal to those with little or no experience with technology. Library membership is not required to participate. Classes will include instruction in email basics, cybersecurity basics, internet basics and computer basics. PLA’s free training site, Digitallearn.org, helps people build skills and confidence using technology. Butler Area Public Library will help patrons use these resources in our Digital Literacy Workshops Series. Watch for details in newsletters (Adult Programming) and on our social media platforms.

|
Thank you to everyone who supported our big, two-day book sale, whether you worked it or came and spent your hard-earned dollars. It’s much appreciated and it all goes into helping the library buy needed items not in their budget.
Now, not to scare you but Christmas is closing in on us and the Friends of the Library’s bookstore is a great way to shop for your favorite reader. For the month of November, we are offering two specialty sales—Native American history and fiction, and in memory of President Kennedy, books about the Kennedy family.
And, in an ongoing sale lasting until the end of the year, ALL paperback FICTION will be ON SALE. Three books for $1. All other genres in paperback will continue to be 50c each, and as always, kid books are 25c. Books wrapped together are priced separately and not part of the sale.
Finally, we are opening the bookstore on Wednesdays, starting November 2nd, from noon to 2:30 pm.
We are also going to open the store on Saturday, November 12th, from 10 am to 2 pm.
Regular Book Shop hours: Mondays 11am-3pm, Wednesdays 12-2:30pm, Thursdays 2-5pm
