Notification of Limited Privacy Breach

Kaslo and District Public Library has been notified by the providers of our library lending system (BC Library Cooperative) that they suffered a security breach during a planned system upgrade. While the breach is considered to have limited impact, it is important that you understand who is affected and what information was leaked.

Who is affected: Patrons who received automated notifications from the library system (i.e., checkout notices, overdue notices, hold notifications) between March 27 and April 19, 2024.

What data was leaked: Email address if you get email notifications or phone number if you get text messages. As well, the library’s email used in the notification was leaked.

What to look for: Emails asking for your personal information or telling you to click a link to perform a needed action. They may look legitimate. If in doubt, call the library at (250) 353-2942. You may also see an increase in spam.

No other data, from the notifications or from your patron files was exposed.

The BC Library Cooperative regrets that this happened and is working with the software provider to ensure this issue does not occur again. We also apologize for this situation.

We will keep patrons informed if we receive any additional information.
