Letter from Your Librarian
Happy February!
    I hope you all stayed warm during the crazy cold snap and that you didn't run out of things to read! Thank you for braving the arctic to join us for our Craft Carnival, Story Times, and other activities. 
    Looking forward, February is going to be a busy month! Winter Reading starts February 1 - register at the Front Desk to earn chances for prizes. We'll be hosting Take Your Child to the Library Day, Family Fort Night, and an Early Literacy/Family Fun Night with Shining Lights Preschool, along with all of our regularly scheduled activities. It's a great month to get out have some fun at the library!

Earn raffle slips and turn in Game Boards from February 1-February 28 
Prize Winners drawn on March 1 
 
This year, earn a chance for the Grand Prize by completing the Game Board. Work your way across the board by reading, attending events, participating in library activities, and more. 
 
Chances for an additional prize can earned by checking out items and attending library events.

Shining Lights Family Fun Night
Tuesday, February 4, 6:00
Multipurpose Room

All families are welcome to join us for a Family Fun Night hosted in partnership with Shining Lights Preschool. We'll share resources, read a few stories, play a few games, and complete a craft. It's a great chance to practice Early Literacy skills, get your library cards updated, and see what the library has to offer. 
Take Your Child to the Library Day
February 15, 10:30-1:30
Children's Department

Our Seventh Annual Take Your Child to the Library Day is coming up! Join us on Saturday February 15 from 10:30-1:30 as we celebrate children at the library. Drop in to see what we offer, eat a snack, listen to stories, connect with other families, and more! As an added bonus, this year, every child gets to take home a free book.   
Family Fort Night
Tuesday February 25, 6:00 pm
Children's Department

Join us as we share stories, enjoy s'mores, and build blanket forts. Bring your blankets, pillows, and flashlights. We'll supply the rest.

This year, I think we'll read books about the Northern Lights and Arctic Animals. We'll definitely craft popsicle stick tents, enjoy gooey s'mores in our forts with the lights off, and go home with a few free gifts. 

Sign-up is REQUIRED. The Sign-up will be available from Monday February 10 until Saturday February 22 or until all spaces are filled. 
STEM Saturday 
Kindergarten-6th Graders Welcome! 
 
Join Miss Kat for some hair-raising scientific experimentation! We’ll get messy, try new things, and learn something about the world while having fun.
 
On February 1 at 11:00 we'll be experimenting with slime (non-edible this time). 
 
Crafturday 
Kindergarten-6th Graders Welcome! 
 
Join Miss Jami for some creative crafting! We'll get messy, try new things, and have something awesome to take home afterwards.
 
On February 8 at 11:00 we'll be making Love Bugs. 
 
    Story Time
    February Theme = People to See
    This year we're reading about ourselves, the world around us, and how it all fits together. We'll practice early literacy skills, play games, craft creatively, and more. 
     
    As always:
    • Age Groups are not set in stone. What works for you works for us, just know that this is what we prep for.
    • Story Times generally last for 45 minutes to an hour depending on our activity. 
    • When school is canceled/off we'll still meet. Just bring the whole family on those days!

    Homeschool Program 

    Join us once a month! 
     
    Homeschool families are invited to join us on the third Wednesday of the month at 1:00. This year’s theme is Interesting People. We’ll read some biographies and learn about the lives of artists, inventors, scientists, musicians, and more. Then we’ll complete an activity (or two) corresponding to that person’s life work.
     
    We’re planning for middle school students (5th-8th grade), but can be adjusted for younger students as well. As with our story times, you know your children best, if you think this is a good fit, please come, we’d love to have you.

    Drop by the Children’s Department on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 4:00 to build, challenge your engineering thinking, and have fun!
     
    Study Buddies
    Kindergarteners - 6th Grade: September 4 - May 21
    We'll be meeting on Wednesdays at 4:00 this year. 
     
    Register at the front desk or in the Children's Department as a Buddy to meet with the same person every week to practice, or come as needed to meet with various/available buddies without registering. 
     
    We are still looking for Helper Buddies! Middle School/High School Helpers preferred. Earn volunteer hours while helping others practice skills! 
     
    Passive Program
    Candy Hearts Scavenger Hunt 
     
    Try our February Activity! We hid 15 Candy Hearts around the department. See if you can find them all for a prize!

    Curbside Service 
    Don't forget-you can still pick up items through our curbside service! Place items on hold through our catalog or by using the Materials Request Form. Then just call from the Mobile Pickup spots closest to the staff entrance and we'll bring them out to you. 
     
    *Please be aware that you can put multiple items on the Materials Request Form--you do not have to complete one for each item, just one for each order. Thank you!
