Letter from Your Librarian
Hello again,
   I'm so glad we got to see some of you in February for Family Fort Night, Take Your Child to the Library Day, and Story Times. The weather certainly made getting here a little more interesting this year - let's hope it gets better in March!
    Speaking of March, we've got some really fun things planned for you all this month. Join us on March 4th for an Early Literacy Night hosted in Partnership with Pioneer Preschool; we'll be reading about frogs. Our annual spring LEGO Building Contest is scheduled for March 29-regstration opens March 3. Otherwise, we're excited to see you at Story Times, Builders' Club, and Study Buddies.

Compete to see which age group can read the most in March to celebrate the Iditarod Race:
  • Register at the Front Desk,
  • keep track of how many minutes you read,
  • turn in your minutes every time you visit MML, 
  • watch the tracker boards in the Lobby to see how your team is doing
We'll pull prizes from the participants of the winning age group, and a prize for the participant who reads the most from each age group.

Early Literacy Night with Pioneer Preschool

Multipurpose Room

Join us as we partner with Pioneer Preschool to celebrate early literacy and frog stories. We'll enjoy a few stories, a craft, and games focusing on early literacy skills. 
Children's Movie Day: Snow Dogs
Saturday March 22, 10:30 
Multipurpose Room 

Join us for a movie and popcorn! We'll watch Snow Dogs, which is fun for the whole family, to celebrate dog sled racing and the IditaRead Contest. While you watch, we'll provide snacks and coloring sheets. 
Lego Building Contest
Saturday March 29, 9:15 am 
Ages 7-13

Registration is REQUIRED and will be available from Monday March 3 to Thursday March 27. No names will be added to the list after we close on Thursday March 21 and walk in will not be permitted to compete. 

Schedule:

11:00-12:00(ish) - Judging 
12:00 (ish) - Awards/Prizes Presented 

Prizes: First, Second, and Third in both the 7-9 age group and the 10-13 age group.
STEM Saturday 
Kindergarten-6th Graders Welcome! 
 
Join Miss Kat for some hair-raising scientific experimentation! We’ll get messy, try new things, and learn something about the world while having fun.
 
On March 1 at 11:00 we'll be experimenting with things that float - see if you can create a boat that floats. 
 
Crafturday 
Kindergarten-6th Graders Welcome! 
 
Join Miss Jami for some creative crafting! We'll get messy, try new things, and have something awesome to take home afterwards.
 
On March 8 at 11:00 we'll be painting spring meadows. 
 
    Story Time
    March Theme = Wild Weather and Creative Critters
    This year we're reading about ourselves, the world around us, and how it all fits together. We'll practice early literacy skills, play games, craft creatively, and more. 
     
    As always:
    • Age Groups are not set in stone. What works for you works for us, just know that this is what we prep for.
    • Story Times generally last for 45 minutes to an hour depending on our activity. 
    • When school is canceled/off we'll still meet. Just bring the whole family on those days!

    Homeschool Program 


    Join us once a month! 
     
    Homeschool families are invited to join us on the third Wednesday of the month at 1:00. This year’s theme is Interesting People. We’ll read some biographies and learn about the lives of artists, inventors, scientists, musicians, and more. Then we’ll complete an activity (or two) corresponding to that person’s life work.
     
    We’re planning for middle school students (5th-8th grade), but can be adjusted for younger students as well. As with our story times, you know your children best, if you think this is a good fit, please come, we’d love to have you.

    Drop by the Children’s Department on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 4:00 to build, challenge your engineering thinking, and have fun!

    Join us for family fun! Each month we'll be highlighting one of the Thinking Money for Kids games. 
     
    On March 25 we'll be playing Currency Conga. Learn about coins and counting money with Twister-like game. 
     
    Study Buddies
    Kindergarteners - 6th Grade: September 4 - May 21
    We'll be meeting on Wednesdays at 4:00 this year. 
     
    Register at the front desk or in the Children's Department as a Buddy to meet with the same person every week to practice, or come as needed to meet with various/available buddies without registering. 
     
    We are still looking for Helper Buddies! Middle School/High School Helpers preferred. Earn volunteer hours while helping others practice skills!

    Don't forget-you can still pick up items through our curbside service! Place items on hold through our catalog or by using the Materials Request Form. Then just call from the Mobile Pickup spots closest to the staff entrance and we'll bring them out to you. 
     
    *Please be aware that you can put multiple items on the Materials Request Form--you do not have to complete one for each item, just one for each order. Thank you!
