Free Tree from Neighborhood Forest Deadline: March 15th Pembroke Public Library is teaming up with Neighborhood Forest to provide free trees to children to plant in celebration of Earth Day. Trees (6-12 inches in size) will be available for pick up at the Library between April 22 - 30. The tree species will be announced in early April. Instructions on planting and caring for the trees, along with species details, will be emailed a few days before the tree delivery and will also be accessible in on the Neighborhood Forest website. Registration is required to reserve a tree and the deadline is March 15; visit this link or call 781-293-6771 for more information or to sign up.

Monday Movie Matinee: Philomena Monday, March 3rd at 1:30 p.m. A world-weary political journalist picks up the story of a woman's search for her son, who was taken away from her decades ago after she became pregnant and was forced to live in a convent. Pembroke Public Library Book Club Tuesday, March 4th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. For our March meeting, the PPL Book Club is reading After Annie by Anna Quindlen, a novel about hope, and about the unexpected power of adversity to change us in profound and indelible ways. Yoga Every Wednesday at 10 a.m. Led by Kim Norton and other instructors from the YogaConnection in Plymouth. Open to all levels! A single-class drop-in is $12 and a four-class registration is $45 ($35 for Friends members). Friends members can purchase an eight-class punch ticket for $80, which is valid for three months. Acoustic Music Night Wednesday, March 5th and 19th at 6:00 p.m. Come join like-minded musicians to share and play music together. All acoustic string and wind instruments are welcome and others will be considered, but please no electronics. The genre focus will be on Folk, Pop, Americana, Soft Rock, R&B, and Blues. Please bring some songs you like to play with sheet music so others can join in, everyone will have a chance to play a few songs.

Timing the Tides Thursday, March 6th at 6:30 p.m. Hear Charlie Naff from the NSRWA present a guide for Timing The Tides when paddling on the North and South Rivers. The presentation includes practical information for paddlers of all experience levels, and photos, images and commentary on the natural beauty, rich history and fragile ecology of the Rivers. The North and South Rivers Watershed Association (NSRWA) is a non-profit grass roots environmental organization that has been dedicated to the preservation and protection of the North and South Rivers, their streams and marshes since 1970.

Crafternoon: Button Art Saturday, March 8th from 2:00-3:30 p.m. Come join the library’s very own Sarah Nelson as she teaches you how to make your beautiful works of art using multi-colored buttons on plain or painted canvas. All supplies included.

Monday Movie Matinee: On the Basis of Sex Monday, March 10th at 1:30 p.m. A struggling attorney and new mother who faces adversity and numerous obstacles in her fight for equal rights. When she takes on a groundbreaking tax case with her husband, attorney Martin Ginsburg, she knows it could change the direction of her career and the way the courts view gender discrimination. Author Talk: A House Restored Wednesday, March 12th at 6:30 p.m. Old houses share their secrets only if they survive. Join author Lee McColgan as he talks about his book A House Restored detailing his journey preserving the 1702 Loring House, using period materials and methods, on a holiday deadline. McColgan’s journey expertly examines our relationship to history through the homes we inhabit, beautifully articulating the philosophy of preserving the past to find purpose for the future.

Cookbook Club Thursday, March 13th at 6:30 p.m. This month's theme is “What Reminds You of Home.” Choose any recipe that reminds you of home, make it, and bring it! It could be a handwritten recipe from a family member or a recipe you grabbed from a cookbook or online. Maybe the dish is something you ate growing up, or something you baked with a loved one - whatever reminds you of your home. If you would prefer to skip the cooking and come in for dinner, you are also welcome at our table. As an optional step, bring in your copy of your cookbook or recipe so that other home cooks and foodies may enjoy browsing it. Photocopying recipes will be allowed at the end of the evening. We ask that if you bring a dish, that it is fully cooked and prepared ahead of time (raw dishes, such as sushi, are not permitted).

Together, they bond over stories from the past about two intrepid women of Whistle Stop Cafe. Starring: Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy, and Mary Stuart Masterson. 130 minutes. Rated: PG-13. PPL Mystery Book Club Thursday, March 20th from 1:30-2:30 p.m. This month's selection is How to Solve Your Own Murder by Kristen Perrin: After a fortune teller in 1965 predicts her murder, Frances spends her life searching for her best friend, who disappeared at a county fair, until she actually is murdered 60 years later, leaving her grand-niece, Annie, to solve both crimes. Genealogy Night Tuesday, March 25th, at 6:30 p.m. Are you interested in finding out more about your genealogy? Do you have a cool story about one of your ancestors you want to share? Join in our monthly Genealogy Night to chat with other family history buffs! All are welcome to attend, from experienced researchers who would like to share tips or stories about great finds, to beginners who want to learn more about the research process and online resources. Library laptops will be available to explore Ancestry Library Edition.

February Teen Take-And-Make: Beaded Bee Available beginning March 3rd while supplies last We know teens are busy with school, work, chores, and more so we're giving you an opportunity to craft on your own time. This month, craft a pony-bead bumble bee (try saying that five times fast!).

Storytime Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Toddlers, ages 2 to 5, and their caregivers can enjoy an interactive storytime with songs, dances, and a story that encourages language development and social skills. Each themed storytime is followed by a craft.

Baby Lapsit Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Designed for babies and toddlers from 6 to 24 months, Lapsits are a great chance for caregivers to bond with their child. Each 30-minute program includes stretches, songs, and rhymes followed by an open play time that allows babies to play and grown-ups to chat.

LEGO Club Tuesday, March 11th from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Kids, ages 4 and up, are welcome to visit and build with the library LEGOs. Bring your neighbors, big siblings, and school friends! This month's theme is "It's a trap!" (work to build a trap for leprechauns).

Anime Club Thursday, March 13th from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Tweens, ages 11 - 15, are invited to watch anime, snack, craft and socialize. This month attendees will enjoy episodes from Sailor Moon (TV-PG), craft with perler beads, and make kandi bracelets with pony beads.

Tackling Test Anxiety (ages 5-8) Tuesday, March 18 from 4:00-5:00pm Kids, ages 5 - 8, and their caregivers are invited to join local author Kathleen Jeffrey as she reads her new book Katie's Really Bad Day and discusses methods to calm test anxiety in young children. Puppy Dog Tales Thursday, March 20th from 4:15-5:00 p.m. Readers of all ages may read to a certified therapy dog to develop their literacy and presentation skills as well as build confidence and self-esteem. Our dogs and trainers provide a supportive environment to practice reading aloud.
