Library News
The Friends' Spring Book and Bake Sale is Here!
Saturday, May 3rd at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Visit the Library Meeting Room on Saturday, May 3rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for plenty of bargain books, tasty treats, and more!
 
All proceeds go to the Friends of the Pembroke Public Library and are used to fund "extras" for the library including discounted museum passes, bestsellers, and programs for all ages.

Monday Movie Matinee: Arrival
Monday, May 5th at 1:30 p.m.
Linguist Louise Banks leads a team of investigators when gigantic spaceships touch down around the world. As nations teeter on the verge of global war, Banks and her crew must find a way to communicate with the extraterrestrial visitors. Starring: Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker. 116 minutes. Rated: PG-13.

Pembroke Public Library Book Club
Tuesday, May 6th from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
For our May meeting the PPL Book Club is reading How to Read a Book by Monica Wood, a heartfelt, uplifting novel about a chance encounter at a bookstore, exploring redemption, unlikely friendships, and the life-changing power of sharing stories.

Yoga
Every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.
Led by Kim Norton and other instructors from the YogaConnection in Plymouth.
 
Open to all levels! A single-class drop-in is $12 and a four-class registration is $45 ($35 for Friends members). Friends members can purchase an eight-class punch ticket for $80, which is valid for three months. Feel free to reach out to Kim at 781-588-5545 if you have any questions!
 
 
Acoustic Music Night
Wednesday, May 7th and 21st at 6:00 p.m.
Come join like-minded musicians to share and play music together. All acoustic string and wind instruments are welcome and others will be considered, but please no electronics. The genre focus will be on Folk, Pop, Americana, Soft Rock, R&B, and Blues. Please bring some songs you like to play with sheet music so others can join in, everyone will have a chance to play a few songs.
 
Crafternoon: Photo Display Boards
Saturday, May 10th at 2:00 p.m.
Come join the library’s very own Sarah Nelson as she teaches you how to make your very own photo board, just in time for Mother's Day. Display all of your treasured moments or give it as a gift! All supplies included.

Monday, May 12th at 1:30 p.m.
After earning a licence to kill, secret agent James Bond sets out on his first mission as 007. Bond must defeat a private banker funding terrorists in a high-stakes game of poker at Casino Royale, in Montenegro. Starring: Daniel Craig, Eva Green, and Judi Dench. 144 minutes. Rated: PG-13.

-History and Legends Through Song
History and Legends Through Song
Tuesday, May 13th at 6:00 p.m.
Performing as the duo, Sultana, Jon and Li Waterman weave history and original songs to feature a rotating array of real and legendary characters and happenings throughout history. Some of the subjects are the earliest known author, Arthurian legend, the lost ancient libraries of Alexandria and Nalanda, an epic medieval battle and the Old West. The show includes some Massachusetts history as well.
 
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Pembroke Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
 
 
PPL Mystery Book Club
Thursday, May 15th from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
This month's selection is House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen: Best interest attorney Stella Hudson normally never accepts clients under thirteen due to her own troubled past, but her mentor thinks she’s the only one who can handle Rose Barclay’s. Rose’s parents are in the middle of a bitter divorce, but more than that Rose has stopped speaking after witnessing the death, the possible murder, of her nanny. Stella is soon to learn that the case is more twisted, and the Barclay’s more troubled, than she feared. Everyone is a suspect in the nanny's murder. The mother, the father, the grandmother, the nanny's boyfriend. Even Rose. Is the person Stella's supposed to protect the one she may need protection from?

Cookbook Club
Thursday, May 15th at 6:30 p.m.
This month we are cooking from Ina Garten! Pick up any one of her thirteen Barefoot Contessa Cookbooks and cook up your favorite recipe to share Potluck style at our next Cookbook Club Meeting!
 
Or, if you would prefer to skip the cooking and come in for dinner, you are also welcome at our table. As an optional step, bring in your copy of your cookbook or recipe so that other home cooks and foodies may enjoy browsing it. Photocopying recipes will be allowed at the end of the evening.

A college dropout, attempting to live up to his father's high standards, gets a job as a broker for a suburban investment firm which puts him on the fast track to success. Genealogy Night
Tuesday, May 27th, at 6:30 p.m.
Are you interested in finding out more about your genealogy? Do you have a cool story about one of your ancestors you want to share? Join in our monthly Genealogy Night to chat with other family history buffs! All are welcome to attend, from experienced researchers who would like to share tips or stories about great finds, to beginners who want to learn more about the research process and online resources. Library laptops will be available to explore Ancestry Library Edition.
 
Composting at Home: Basics and Beyond
Wednesday, May 28th at 6:30 p.m.
There are lots of good reasons to compost, and there are just as many ways to go about turning your unused food into "black gold" for your garden! Join Pembroke Recycling and Sustainability Committee member Meghan Watts and guest presenter Peter Swanson of the Cleaner Greener Hingham Committee as they show you the steps of traditional backyard composting and the lesser known method of Bokashi composting. You'll leave armed with the knowledge and confidence to start your own compost bin (or two) at home!
 
 
Pembroke Public Library Book Club
Tuesday, June 3rd from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
For our June meeting the PPL Book Club is reading Husbands & Lovers by Beatriz Williams, historical fiction in which two women—separated by decades and continents, and united by an exotic family heirloom—reclaim secrets and lost loves.

Teen Take-And-Make: Venus Flytrap
Available beginning May 1st while supplies last
We know teens are busy with school, work, chores, and more so we're giving you an opportunity to craft on your own time. This month's craft is a clothespin Venus Flytrap.

Storytime
Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.
Ages 2 to 5 and their caregivers can enjoy an interactive storytime with songs, dances, and a story that encourages language development and social skills. Each themed storytime is followed by a craft.
 
 
Baby Lapsit
Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.
Designed for babies and toddlers from 6 to 24 months, Lapsits are a great chance for caregivers to bond with their child. Each 30-minute program includes stretches, songs, and rhymes followed by an open play time that allows babies to play and grown-ups to chat.
 
 
Anime Club
Thursday, May 1st from 4:15-5:30pm
Ages 11 to 15 are invited to watch anime, snack, craft and socialize. This month attendees will enjoy episodes from the series “The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.” (TV-14) and craft with perler beads and magnets.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
LEGO Club
Tuesday, May 13th from 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Kids, ages 4 and up, are welcome to visit and build with the library LEGOs. This month's theme is Mission to Mars.
 
 
 
 
 
Puppy Dog Tales
Thursday, May 15th from 4:15-5:00 p.m.
Readers of all ages may read to a certified therapy dog to develop their literacy and presentation skills as well as build confidence and self-esteem. Our dogs and trainers provide a supportive environment to practice reading aloud.
 
 
 
Chess Club
Wednesday, May 21st from 4:00-5:00 p.m.
 Youth and families can learn and play chess at the Library. Whether you've been playing for years or want to start playing for the first time, you’re welcome to join us!
-Mosquito Safety
Mosquito Safety
Wednesday, May 28th from 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Families with all ages of youth are invited to learn about mosquitos, their lifecycle, free local services, crucial information, and more that can keep everyone safe in summer. Mosquito Safety is presented in collaboration with the Plymouth County Mosquito Control Project. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed.
