Summer Reading Challenge June 17th to August 23rd Patrons are challenged to "Read, Renew, Repeat" this summer at home and at the Library. All ages are welcome to participate by reading, visiting the library, attending programs, or unlocking the "Nature's Friend" badge on Beanstack. At the Farmer's Market Saturdays this Summer, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Find our table at the Farmer’s Market on 7/13 and 7/27 at the brand new Community Center. Younger kids will enjoy a story time on July 13th (check out the details below), and our staff, joined by members of the Friends of the Pembroke Public Library, will be happy to see everyone there!

Adult Craft Night: Seed Bomb Workshop Tuesday, July 16th at 6:30 p.m. Learn how to make seed-bombs with Library staff and spice up your gardening! Seed bombs are designed to enable seeds to be sown in hard to reach places, and in locations where you're unable to spend a lot of time preparing for conventional sowing. Whether you’re crafting for fun or convenience, our staff are happy to help you through the process. PPL Mystery Book Club Thursday, July 18th from 1:30-2:30 p.m. This month's selection is The Manor House by Gilly MacMillan: Following a massive lottery win, childhood sweethearts Nicole and Tom move into a custom-built, state-of-the-art Glass Barn on the stunning grounds of Lancaut Manor in Gloucestershire, finally living a life they could once only imagine. But this dream world quickly turns into a nightmare when Tom is found dead in the swimming pool. Nicole is devastated, and is beginning to feel very alone in their beautiful barn. But she’s not entirely by herself out there in the country, and big money can bring big problems and big threats. Was Tom’s death a tragic accident or was it something worse? Gardening for Biodiversity with Native Plants Thursday, July 25th at 2:00 pm Presented by Amy Meltzer, this talk focuses on the current biodiversity crisis; the evolutionary history among native plants, insects, birds and fungi, and how these interdependent relationships among diverse species are necessary for their survival. She will show how growing native plants and using ecological landscape practices can simultaneously reverse biodiversity loss, increase resilience in our landscapes, and slow climate change - all while creating a beautiful garden!

Genealogy Night Tuesday, July 30th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Are you interested in finding out more about your genealogy? Do you have a cool story about one of your ancestors you want to share? Join in our monthly Genealogy Night to chat with other family history buffs! All are welcome to attend, from experienced researchers who would like to share tips or stories about great finds, to beginners who want to learn more about the research process and online resources. Library laptops will be available to explore Ancestry Library Edition.

June Teen Take-And-Make: Paper Seahorses Available beginning June 1st while supplies last We know teens are busy with school, work, chores, and more so we're giving you an opportunity to craft on your own time. Pick up a Craft Kit in the YA Lounge and craft a paper seahorse. These crafts are kindly sponsored by the Friends of the Pembroke Public Library.

Storytime Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Toddlers (ages 2 to 5) and their caregivers can enjoy an interactive storytime with songs, dances, games, and stories that encourage language development and social skills. Each themed storytime is followed by a craft. Storytime will not take place on July 15 or July 30 as special events for this age group are planned.

Baby Lapsit Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Designed for babies and toddlers from 6 to 24 months, Lapsits are a great chance for caregivers to bond with their child. Each 30-minute program includes stretches, songs, and rhymes followed by an open play time that allows babies to play and grown-ups to chat.

LEGO Club Tuesday, July 9th from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Kids ages 4+ are welcome to visit and build with the library LEGOs. Bring neighbors, big siblings, and school friends and get creative. This month's theme is "Sink or Float?"

Read and Learn with Pet Vet Dr. RosieThursday, July 11th from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Ages 5 - 9 can enjoy interactive reading of Dr. Rosie Helps the Animals by the author and illustrators of this imaginative story about a young girl who becomes a veterinarian. A hands-on activity afterwards will teach children about veterinary medicine. Registration is required and opens June 20;

Anime Club featuring Tales and Origami for Teens Thursday, July 11th from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Ages 11 - 15 are invited to discover Japan, the birthplace of Anime, through magical tales and origami! Award-winning storyteller Motoko will discuss how Japanese folklore has inspired games and anime in the U.S. and around the world. Under her step-by-step guidance, participants will make exciting origami figures, and design their own original anime characters. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Pembroke Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Farmers Market Storytime Saturday, July 13th from 11:00-11:30 a.m. Join Miss Melissa for a storytime geared toward ages 4-8 at the Pembroke Farmers Market (outside the Community Center). Families can also pick up a special farm-themed sticker scene. Siblings and friends are welcomed!

Music Makers Monday, July 15th at 10:30 a.m. Join Ms. Bethany and enhance your little one’s love of music during this 30-minute bonding time, with songs, dance, and movement games to excite one’s budding musician. Babies and toddlers ages 0-5 with a caregiver are welcome to drop in and join us!

Plant Slime Workshop Tuesday, July 16th from 4:00-5:15 p.m.Ages 6 - 12 will learn about the sticky, slimy adaptations of plants and mix up their own slime recipe. Puppy Dog Tales Thursday, July 18th from 4:15-5:00 p.m. Readers of all ages may read to a certified therapy dog to develop their literacy and presentation skills as well as build confidence.

Battlebots (Teens)Monday, July 29th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Ages 13 - 18 will modify Dash robots with balloons, skewers, straws, and more as they prepare for battle. Music at the Blissful (ages 2-7) Tuesday, July 30th at 10:30 a.m. Award Winning, National Touring Children's Musician From Boston MA, Music at the Blissful (Evan Haller) comes to the Pembroke Public Library for a fun-filled, interactive, movement-packed music experience. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Pembroke Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Intro to Safe Babysitting (ages 11-14, sign-up required) Wednesday, July 31st from 2:40-4:30 p.m. Learn how to safely care for children through this introductory level program taught by SafeSitter! The course covers child development,child care routines, and behavior management. Students will receive a student booklet and a completion certificate. Space is limited and registration is required. Students must sign-up in-person at the Library and have a payment of $25 ready (cash or checks made out to Pembroke Public Library). Registration begins Wednesday, June 26 (9:00am). This workshop is partially funded by the Friends of the Pembroke Public Library.

Dungeons and Dragons (Ages 15-18) Thursdays, August 1st to 22nd from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Teens (15-18) will join a band of fellow adventurers in this four session introduction to Dungeons and Dragons! You’ll be walked through the basics of character creation and navigating the Player’s Handbook. Work with a group of others to pursue a unique quest! Sessions for this adventure will be on Thursdays August 1, 8, 15, and 22. Due to the structure of this event, we ask that registrants ensure they can attend all dates.
