Celebrating Halloween!
Do you need a Costume?New-to-you costumes are available free of charge during regular library hours from October 2 - 21. Available sizes are baby through teen. Available costumes may be added to throughout the 3 weeks as space is available. Please come and browse our selection of great costumes and let us save you from some Halloween stress. ------ Spooky Pajama Storytime Thursday, October 19 at 6:00pm Wear your coziest pajamas and bring a stuffed, snuggly friend for a few spooky stories with Ms. Cailin! Storytime will be followed by Halloween-themed "Minute to Win It" games and a craft. All are welcome for stories, but the games and craft are best suited for ages 4+. ------- Halloween Bash for Kids Saturday October 28 from 9:00 - 12:30am Stop by the library today for a whole cauldron-full of fiendish fun! Come in costume and trick-or-treat for candy and goodies. We'll have crafts and games to enjoy, plus we'll be announcing our Pumpkin Decorating Contest winner! Bring in your Pumpkin! by 10/13
Annual Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest to benefit the Living Bread Food Pantry in Plainville. Bring in your decorated pumpkin by Friday October 13. Please do not cut real pumpkins. Using fake pumpkins is OK! Get your creative juices going! All ages can participate: adults, kids and teens!
Voting with a canned good will take place between October 14 and 28 to benefit the Food Pantry. The winning pumpkin will take home a $20 Dunkin gift card and a Library tote bag from the Friends of the Plainville Public Library, Inc.

This arts & crafts series for ages 9-13 will take place on the second and fourth Thursday of the month, unless otherwise noted on the calendar. There's NO SCHOOL for Plainville Students on Tuesday October 24.For this no-school day, our neighbors from ThermoFisher Scientific are visiting with a special STEM event at 1:00pm! Kids will be making slime and doing an experiment with chromatography, which is the process of separating a mixture into separate components. This program is intended for ages 7-12; registration will open in early October.

Benefits Early Readers!
|
Pre-readers and experienced readers alike are invited to join Lori and her dog Mocha in the Children's Department for our new "Read to a Dog" program! Reading to a furry friend not only helps kids practice their literacy skills, but it builds reading confidence and reduces stress. This drop-in program will take place on the last Wednesday of every month; no registration required. Wednesday October 25 at 4:30pm

Tuesdays at 10:00am -- Rhyme Time
Rhyme Time is a program intended for infants and toddlers. Each week we will share an interactive story, a Mother Goose rhyme and some fun music and movement. Children are welcome to engage with the program, come and go from the circle as they want while they build their self regulation and attention skills, and when the music starts everyone usually comes rushing back! This is intended to be a comfortable, engaging activity to introduce story time expectations and early literacy skills in a low-key environment, to allow for social opportunities for children and parents and to expose infants and toddlers to an early learning environment.

Have Craft Stuff Taking up too Much Space?

All October! Here's how it works: Donate during the month of October: Bring your craft supplies at the front desk of the Library, during regular library hours. Be sure to pick up your swap ticket when you donate. Swap tickets gain early entry to the swap on Saturday November 4 at 9:00am Nothing to donate? Stop by Saturday, November 4 from 10:00 - 1:00pm and help yourself. Donations will be accepted to fund craft programs for adults and children at the Plainville Public Library. NOTE: We cannot accept open liquids such as paints, chemicals and glues. All supplies not taken by public will be used by the library for programs, donated to charity, or recycled.
