Summer is coming, isn't it? June is a busy month here, as you can see below. There are also a few great community events happening in June! Enjoy two events in one at the Animal Shelter's Yard Sale and the Swansea Health Fair, happening Sunday, June 22 from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM at the Town Hall Annex, 68 Stevens Road. While you pick up some great bargains, enjoy meeting community health partners, playing games for the kids and music. Please note we are closed for staff training on Friday, June 13, but we open again on Saturday the 14th. Hope to see you soon! Jocelyn Tavares, Library Director

 Wednesday, June 18 at 6:00 PM at the Swansea Dam The Swansea Free Public Library invites you to a session with Mass Wildlife's Angler Education Program's fishing events for beginners. Learn to set up your rod, tie knots, cast, and identify fish. Events are free, family friendly, and open to all skill levels. No fishing license is required. Bring your own fishing equipment or borrow ours. Limited gear and bait will be provided. Event pre-registration is encouraged. Please contact the library at 508-674-9609, option 3. |
A Matter of Perspective on the Origin of King Philip's War: Conversation and Bus Tour Saturday, June 21 at Case Jr. High School, 195 Main Street, Doors open at 10:00 AM Join us for a conversation about the origin of King Philip's War, with a companion bus tour of local sites where the war occurred in and around Swansea, Massachusetts. The day's events are: 10:00 -10:30 AM: Doors open and display of Pokanoket artifacts (free) 10:30 – Noon: Tribal Historian Strong Turtle, Pokanoket Tribe/Pokanoket Nation, and Eric Schultz, co-author of King Philip's War: The History and Legacy of America's Forgotten Conflict, will discuss the causes and early course of the war at the Joseph Case Junior High School media room in Swansea, MA. Spring Story Time Tuesdays at 11:00 AM June 3 - June 17 Enjoy stories, crafts and candy bingo with Ms. Carol. Story time will be outside in the church yard for good weather. It will meet inside for inclement weather.

The Tuesday Club: Research Family History Every Tuesday, Noon - 2:00 PM Join us each week to research, discuss and work on family projects. Open to beginners and family historians alike.

Board Game Bonanza Every Tuesday, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Join us in playing a variety of board games! This new gaming group is meant to be a place to relax and meet new people. Bring your own games, or play the library ones.

Swansea Card Makers Wednesday, June 4 at Noon at Christ Church's Hall 57 Main Street Moving to the temporary library starting June 11 Make two cards each week, as well as other paper crafts, with our craft leaders Bonnie and Jean. All supplies are provided.

MahJong Every Thursday at 10:00 AM You are invited to join in a game of mahjong. Open to players of all levels to learn in a relaxed environment. Please register to let us know you are coming!

Swansea Quilters First Friday of the month 1:00 - 3:00 Open to quilters of all levels. For beginners, quilter Diane Preble will cover the basics of quilting to help get started. For experienced quilters, bring in a project you are working on. Tools and sewing machine provided.

Battleship Cove 5 Water Street, Fall River Pass Admits 2 Adults and 3 Children at $3 each Battleship Cove is a war memorial and historic military museum located in Fall River, Massachusetts. It is home to five National Historic Landmark ships, and other craft, including the USS Massachusetts, USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., USS Lionfish, Hiddensee, and two PT boats. Their collection of aircraft includes two Bell helicopters that saw combat in the Vietnam War—the Bell UH-1 “Huey” Iroquois and the Bell AH-1 Cobra—as well as two of the first drone unmanned aerial vehicles used by the military. In addition to exhibits focused on military history, the Maritime Museum presents the history of the RMS Titanic and the famous Fall River Line.
