Wednesday, April 30 at 5PM | Barbara Healy's Coastal Wanderlust will remain on display in the Flora T. Little Art Gallery through the month of May. The Artist's Reception will take place Wednesday, April 30 from 5 - 7 PM.
About the Artist:
Barbara Healy is a contemporary award-winning artist working in oils and acrylics. A Connecticut native, Barbara fell in love with the South Coast, and her husband Shaun, while getting her BFA at UMASS Dartmouth and stayed.
Her degree in textile design has given her a background in color but she often paints plein air to learn from nature. Her studio in Dartmouth, MA has been on the South Coast Artists Open Studio Tour for 14 years. She is a Juried Artist Member of The National Association of Women Artists, Cape Cod Art Center, and also teaches painting.
About the Exhibit: I have a deep connection to the natural world that I see through the eyes of an artist.
My paintings capture a moment or memory of wonder, joy, and beauty, something special that caught my eye. Paintings are inspired by the diverse colors of light, atmosphere, and nature in the coastal landscape where I live. I look for what is unique to convey a sense of place. Although often evoked by a fleeting moment, I translate in paint to transcend time. Brushstrokes over glimpses of color intentionally reveal some of the painting process.

Monday, April 28 at 6:30PM |
Join us Monday, April 28th at 6:30 pm for a presentation by Stephanie Najarian White, the inaugural Flora T. Little Fellow in Local History at the Bridgewater Public Library.
About the Presentation:
White’s research in the library archives began with Bridgewater’s economic links to the Carver cotton gin in the 1800s and soon led to Natchez, Mississippi, where many of the gins were sold and used by enslaved people, both before and after the U. S. Civil War. White will show how the links between the two cities, that began with cotton capitalism, have shaped both communities in ways that are still felt today.
About Stephanie White:
White is a graduate student at the University of Massachusetts, Boston where she is studying for her Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution. She is a Graduate Assistant with the Conflict and Early Warning Analytics and Policy Program, and a Research Assistant with the Department of Conflict Resolution, Global Governance and Human Security, Joiner Institute for War and Social Consequences.
No Registration Required. Stephanie White's archival exhibition will be on display this spring in the Downstairs Gallery. |

Apply Now for the Flora T. Little Fellowship in Local History at the Bridgewater Public Library
The Bridgewater Public Library Archives seeks a scholar to explore, illuminate, and contextualize the local history of the Bridgewater region. At the library, our mission is to educate, inform, enrich, and inspire the community. With this fellowship, our goal is to provide a clearer understanding of ourselves and each other through deep and meaningful analysis and contextualization of our shared heritage.
We invite students of history, public history, the humanities, women’s studies, African-American studies, Indigenous people’s studies, LGBTQ+ studies, folklore, historic crafts, industrialization, New England studies, and others to explore the archival holdings of the public library. And then to share their insights and fresh understanding of our region with the library community.
Fellows will spend the fall academic semester researching the primary resources in the library’s history room, and will present their findings at the end of the semester in three ways: With an on-site exhibit, during an event evening, and through submission of their findings to an academic, peer-reviewed journal. |

Herbert Block, or "Herblock," is among the world’s best known and most admired political cartoonists, having spent most of his 72-year career fighting against abuses of the powerful.
Today, The Herblock Foundation continues to call attention to his work in their "commitment to defending the basic freedoms guaranteed all Americans, combating all forms of discrimination and prejudice and improving the conditions of the poor and underprivileged through the creation or support of charitable and educational programs with the same goals."
Ever Green, the latest addition to the Herblock Traveling Exhibitions, displays large-scale reproductions of Herblock’s powerful cartoons about the environment, a subject he began addressing during the Twenties and the Great Depression.
Herblock cared deeply about the environment. His work on issues about wildlife, wilderness and natural resources are as relevant today, as they were in the past. Many of his cartoons on the world’s most fragile and precious treasures, were produced shortly before his death at age 91 in September 2001. "Ever Green" will remain on display in the library lobby through the month of April. |
