About the Artist |
Isabel Shamitz has been creating artwork all her life from a young age, and, until recently, divided her time between teaching locally and exhibiting her paintings. Her love of Boston’s urban scenery is evident in the vivid colors and details of her distinctive cityscapes and portraits, capturing both image and essence in her subjects.
As a child growing up in the Washington D.C. area, Ms. Shamitz attended the Corcoran Museum in Washington, D.C., has a B.F.A from the University of Maryland, a Certificate from the Art Institute of Boston, and has studied under the late Robert Cormier, Director of the Boston Artist Guild and at the Museum of Fine Arts Extension School. She also teaches a course in Fundamentals of Drawing, Oil Painting at all Levels, and gives lectures and demonstrations of her techniques. |
About the Exhibit |
Since early childhood, creating art and watching an image come to life on my canvas has given me great satisfaction. My favorite subjects have always been scenes from city life; people, places, pets and the humans they own, caught in the act of living. Like portraits, cities are living, breathing entities and the energy and intensity of the different urban elements have always fascinated me. My influences have been the Impressionists (in their uses of transitional color) and many post-impressionistic artists, in their exploration of subject matter. |
