Community Announcements
| | |
Everyone deserves the dignity of feeling clean and cared for. Our toiletry drive brings together the community to collect essential items—like soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and more—for neighbors in need. By donating, you’re helping provide comfort, confidence, and hope to those who may otherwise go without. Together, we can make a meaningful difference, one small item at a time. Donation box is located next to our circulation desk. |

Monday, October 20 at 6PM | Meet the Unsung Heroine Behind the New Deal: Frances Perkins
Frances Perkins, the first woman to serve in the U.S. Cabinet, shaped many protections we take for granted today—Social Security, unemployment insurance, the 40-hour workweek, minimum wage, and child labor laws.
Join us as Part 2 of her story unfolds (no need to have seen Part 1). Hear how she navigated the Depression, New Deal, and World War II as FDR’s Secretary of Labor. Learn about her bold demands before accepting the job, her hidden role in New Deal programs, her near impeachment, and her struggles with family, gender bias, and wartime challenges. Discover the character and contributions of this remarkable, often overlooked American heroine.
Janet Parnes of Historical Portrayals by Lady J, Millis
will portray Miss Perkins.
The Unsung Heroine Behind the New Deal is part of the One Book One Community Fall read Becoming Madam Secretary by Stephanie Dray. Note: This is Part 2 of a 2-Part Series.
