STAFF FEATURE
Melissa, Senior Library Technician
We asked full-time staff member, Melissa, to answer a few questions for us. Melissa was recently promoted from a part-time to a full-time position.
Describe your current job:
I am a Senior Library Technician. I basically do a little of everything: cataloging new items, and working at the children’s room and circulation desks. I also am in charge of fixing the library’s books and movies when they get damaged.
What's your favorite part of the job?
I love doing a little bit of everything! I could be in the Children’s Room for a few hours, spend time packaging new materials (like the ukuleles), and catalog some new movies too, all in one day!
What was your very first paid job?
I started babysitting kids in my neighborhood when I was about 12 but my first job as an adult was working as a lab assistant in a lab that does analytical chemistry on rocks and minerals.
What is your most memorable experience in a Library?  When the 4th Harry Potter book came out, my local library had a release party and someone came to read the first chapter. I had never read any of the Harry Potter books before and I was so hooked by the reading that I read the first 3 books in a few weeks. That was how I was introduced to Harry Potter, through an amazing library event that I still remember almost 19 years later!
What titles are on your reading list?
Right now I’m reading “Death Wears a Mask” by Ashley Weaver on Overdrive/Libby. But I also have a to-read list a mile long that includes “Field Notes on Love” by Jennifer Smith, “Crown of Feathers” by Nicki Pau Petro, and “Terns of Endearment” by Donna Andrews.
What would you name the autobiography of your life?
“Life is short, have a cookie.”
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Bliss Dairy’s Purple Cow

BOOKS & MORE
Book Buzz
By now you've likely heard all the buzz around Where The Crawdads Sing, the atmospheric coming-of-age story and mystery about the life of beautiful recluse known as The Marsh Girl, by Delia Owens. APL staff members can't stop talking it up and if you're not on hold for it already, we highly recommend you get on the list. If, however, you've already read it and want more like it or if you're looking for something to read while you wait for your copy to come in then we recommend Tell The Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rika Brunt or My Absolute Darling by Gabriel Tallent.

Elise LaForge is the Reader Services Librarian and adult fiction buyer at the Attleboro Public Library. If you’re ever stuck on what to read next Elise can help you out with a custom recommendation. You can reach her at elaforge@sailsinc.org.
Museum Passes
Warm weather means it's time to get outside and the museum passes sponsored by the Friends of Attleboro Public Library can help. Great places to visit include Blithewold Mansion and Gardens in Bristol, RI. This pass admits up to 6 people at $7 for each adult; $2 for children 6-17 year old. Children under 6 are free. "Blithewold is a 33-acre summer estate with grand views of Narragansett Bay and is nationally significant in American history as one of the most fully developed and authentic examples of the Country Place Era. The property features a 45-room mansion filled with family heirlooms, and is framed by a series of lovely gardens that range in character from mysterious to exotic and from poetic to practical. An exceptional collection of rare and unusual plants, specimen trees, an accessible greenhouse, and whimsical stonework project a character that is romantic, fresh, and inspiring – and unique to Blithewold."
Reserve passes yourself online or call the library. One pass per day per library card.

Online Resources at the APL - NoveList
The APL’s eLibrary is more than downloadable books and audiobooks, it has databases useful for a variety of needs. This month's featured database is NoveList, a treasure house of titles for children and adults, fiction and non-fiction, searchable by theme, genre, award winners and much more. Find read-alikes for your favorite authors and series, suggestions for your book club and book lists on everything from celebrity reads to political thrillers. Ask a staff member for a demonstration!
THANK YOU, VOLUNTEERS!
Every Moment Makes A Difference
The Attleboro Library is fortunate to have a vast team of volunteers working hard to improve the services and collections available to the community. In April, a small group of these volunteers were able to attend the city's annual appreciation luncheon and be recognized for the time and effort they share with us all. The Library would like to thank ALL of our volunteers for their help. Their time and talent is invaluable to us!
