Before Brooklyn: The Unsung Heroes Who Helped Break Baseball's Color Barrier
Join author Ted Reinstein at Old Town Hall on Thursday February 27th at 6:30 as he discusses his book, Before Brooklyn, and the history of desegregation in baseball that began not with Jackie Robinson in 1947, but with Moses Fleetwood Walker in 1884. For a time following Walker's debut, integrated teams were not that unusual. However, as segregation throughout the country hardened, the battle for integration in baseball began anew. Reinstein will highlight this history in addition to stories of little-known heroes who fought segregation in the sport, from newspaper reporters to car porters delivering newspapers to homes throughout the country.
