Summer Reading is officially in full swing, so stop by our Children's section and sign up for our Read to Bead program. We will also be offering scratch tickets for children to win a whole host of great prizes, and we even have a summer reading bingo challenge for adults available for pick up in the modular unit. Ed the Wizard returns to Dighton, on July 24th for a program to instruct everybody how to make their own balloon animal dinosaurs. The program is free, but registration is required. Please call the Library at (508) 669-6421 if you are interested in reserving a seat. Our Children's Section will be hosting summer craft activities every Monday afternoon all throughout the summer beginning July 7th. For July, we will be offering polymer clay, bubble painting, spray-dye T-shirts, and slime day, and don't forget to wear the color of the week each week to win a lollipop. Check our calendar to see the full slate of activities. Speaking of our Children's Section, join Miss Lorie behind Town Hall for Stories in the Park every Wednesday at 12:00 beginning on July 9th. Miss Lorie will also be offering bird walks every Wednesday morning. We are also pleased to announce that the Friends have set the date for their Third Annual Golf Tournament for Sunday October 5th at the Swansea Country Club, and you can CLICK HERE to register. Please note that the Library will be closed from Thursday July 3rd through Sunday July 6th in honor of Independence Day.

HVAC work on our new Library is nearing completion and very soon, the building will have a new and fully operational HVAC system. The image above shows the rear of the building where the exterior units HVAC units have been recently installed.

Join Ed the Wizard on Thursday July 24th at 11:00 at Old Town Hall and learn how to create your own balloon animal dinosaurs. Ed the Wizard will show everybody how to make their own T-Rex and Pterodactyl to take home. It is as easy as fold, pinch, and twist! This program is free to attend, but registration is required. Join the Traveling Book Group and travel around the world through books. This month, the book club will travel to Nantucket to solve a murder mystery by reading The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand for discussion on Wednesday July 30th in the Children's Section located in the Lower Level of the Town Hall at 6:00. Copies of books are available at the Library for anybody looking to take part. The Traveling Book Group meets on the last Wednesday of each month, and anybody interested is welcome to attend.

Tot Time Join Ms. Lorie Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 in July for songs, stories, and finger-plays for children between the ages of 18 months and 3 years.

Stories in the Park Join Miss Lorie for Stories in the Park every Wednesday at noon beginning on July 9th. Families are invited to bring a picnic lunch and listen to stories while they eat.

Summer Reading Begins June 24th! Children are invited to sign up for the Read to Bead program. They will get a chain with a tag of their choice plus they can pick out a colored bead for every 15 minutes they spend reading. For every five hours, children will earn a scratch ticket to win a special prize. Every scratch ticket is a winner, so there are plenty of cool prizes available for everybody! The D-R School District has posted the Elementary School, Middle School, and High School summer reading lists for anybody interested in looking through all the assigned titles.

Pet Photo Contest: Begins August 1st

E-mail your cute, funny, or unusual pet photo to Ms. Lorie at the Children's Section in the Lower Level of the Town Hall to enter. The pictures will be laminated and then hung in our entry hallway. Each photo will be given a number so that everyone can vote for their favorite pet photo. Rules:- Include the name of the pet, name of the person entering the photo, and the age of the photographer.
- E-mail the picture so it can be printed as an 8x10.
- Each child can submit a photo of a pet.
- Pictures must be submitted by August 1st.
- Voting will begin on August 1st and end on August 30th.
- You can vote every time you visit the Children's Section.
Prizes will be awarded to the winning Child's photo and Adult's photo!

Next Meeting The next meeting of the Friends of the Dighton Public Library will be on Thursday August 14th at 6:30 in the Library's Children's Section located in the lower level of Dighton Town Hall. All are welcome, and we always welcome new friends. All you really need to do is love the library and join us for a few meetings a year to help brainstorm and plan great events!
