It is a new year, and with that comes plenty of new programs at the Dighton Public Library. Join genealogist Marian Pierre-Louis in the Program Room on January 15th for a special presentation on how to research your own house history. Marian selects a house in Dighton, researches it herself, and presents on her methodology so that you can follow the same process in order to research your own home. January will also mark the first meeting of the Cooking Club on January 22nd. Anybody interested in joining can call the Library at (508) 669-6421 for more information. Creativity Club will continue to meet on Thursday evenings and offer plenty of fun crafts for all who are interested. Our pet photo contest begins on January 1st. There is still time to enter, so e-mail Miss Lorie your photo to make sure your pet is included. January also marks the return our of Thursday yoga sessions, with our first one scheduled for January 8th at Old Town Hall, so call the Library if you are interested in registering. Our regular children's programs will continue, and we have added a new Teen Movie night on January 14th with a showing of Fantastic 4: First Steps. Don't forget to check our calendar to see everything else we will be offering throughout the New Year. Please note that the Library will be closed on January 1st for New Year's Day and on January 19th for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

10 Steps to Researching the History of your House in Dighton

Join Marian Pierre-Louis on Thursday January 15th at 6:00 in the Program Room and learn ten steps to get started on your house history research. An educator with over 25 years experience researching house histories, Marian will explore where to find the deeds to your house, how to chain a deed, and locate other sources of information from U.S. Federal Census records, maps, and tax records that will teach all in attendance how to find the stories that bring the history of your house to life. This talk is appropriate for both beginners and those who have research experience. This program is free of charge and no registration is required.

Are you a creative person? Do you like making crafts? If so, then stop by the Program Room at 6:00 during the first, second, and third Thursdays in January at 6:00 for the Creativity Club. The Club works on many different projects with a variety of crafts throughout the course of their meetings. The first Thursday of each month is dedicated to needlework for those who enjoy knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint, but other meetings are dedicated to other fun and engaging crafts that all will enjoy.

The Cooking Club will meet on Thursday January 22nd in the Program Room at 3:00. The Club will meet monthly with a different theme each month. January's theme will be croissants. The dishes can be croissants themselves or dishes made with croissants. Anybody interested in participating should register in advance by calling the Library at (508) 669-6421, and participants will be notified one week prior to each meeting how many servings they should bring. Participants should also bring copies of the recipe to share with other participants in the Cooking Club.

Join the Traveling Book Group and travel around the world through books. This month, the book club will travel from Maryland to New York and follow the lives of Maggie and her sister Ginny by reading The Frederick Sisters are Living the Dream by Jeannie Zusy for discussion on Thursday January 29th in the Program Room at 6:00. Copies of the book are available at the Library, and anybody interested is welcome to attend.

Free Community Yoga Six Thursday Sessions January 8th through February 2nd at 10:30 Old Town Hall, 1111 Somerset Avenue You are invited to our introductory yoga sessions with No Place Like Om - Yoga with a Physical Therapist. Enjoy a 60 minute vinyasa (flow) class. Learn to pair breath with movement to help quiet your mind while gaining strength and flexibility, in addition to having fun along the way. Tot Time Join Ms. Lorie Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 in January for songs, stories, and finger-plays for children between the ages of 18 months and 3 years.

Homeschool Group Are you a homeschool family? Then visit the Program Room every Wednesday at 1:00. Miss Lorie will read a chapter book and lead a craft based on the story.

Story Time Stop in and visit Miss Lorie for Story Time every Thursday at 1:00 in the Program Room. Listen to a few fun stories and then create a fun craft to take home.

Join us for a special showing of the PG-13 movie Fantastic 4: First Steps on Wednesday January 14th at 6:00 in the Program Room. There will be soft drinks, popcorn, and an assortment of snacks provided for everybody in attendance.

E-mail your cute, funny, or unusual pet photo to Ms. Lorie to enter the January pet photo contest. The pictures will be laminated and then hung along the ramp leading up to the Children's Section. Each photo will be given a number so that everyone can vote for their favorite pet photo. Photo entries will also appear on Dighton Public Access Channel 9, so look for them there as well. Rules:- Include the name of the pet, name of the person entering the photo, and the age of the photographer.
- E-mail the picture so it can be printed as an 8x10.
- Each child can submit a photo of a pet.
- Pictures must be submitted by January 1st.
- Voting will begin on January 1st and end on February 1st.
- You can vote every time you visit the Children's Section.
Prizes will be awarded to the winning Child's photo and Adult's photo!

Next Meeting The next meeting of the Friends of the Dighton Public Library will be on Thursday March 5th at 4:30 in the Library Reading Room. All are welcome, and we always welcome new friends. All you really need to do is love the library and join us for a few meetings a year to help brainstorm and plan great events!
