We continue to offer our full slate of weekly children's programs in our Children's Section all throughout May and even started a new photo contest focusing on Dighton photographs. Speaking of programs, we will once again be offering free community yoga Thursday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 at Old Town Hall beginning May 2nd and running through June 13th. The sessions are free to attend, but please call the Library at (508) 669-6421 to register for a spot if you are interested. We will also welcome best-selling author Eric Jay Dolin on May 2nd at Old Town Hall to discuss his upcoming book Left for Dead: Shipwreck, Treachery, and Survival at the Edge of the World about a true story of survival on the Falkland Islands during the War of 1812. Local historian William Hanna, author of Tetiquet to the Sea: History of the Taunton River, will also come to Dighton to discuss the history of the Taunton River. You can see his talk on May 23rd at Old Town Hall. Both talks are free to attend, and no registration is required.

Left for Dead: Shipwreck, Treachery, and Survival at the Edge of the World
Come see Eric Jay Dolin on Thursday May 2nd at 6:30 at Old Town Hall as he discusses the true story of a wild and fateful encounter between a shipwreck and a British warship in the Falkland Islands during the War of 1812. Fraught with misunderstandings and mistrust, the incident left three British sailors and two Americans abandoned in the inhospitable Falkland Islands for a year and a half. Dolin's upcoming book launches May 7th, but this lecture will provide a sneak peek into Dolin's book that critics are calling a "stunning account" and a "riveting, rollicking read."

Tetiquet to the Sea: History of the Taunton River
Join Dr. William Hanna on Thursday May 23rd at 6:30 at Old Town Hall as he discusses his book Tetiquet to the Sea: A History of the Taunton River. Hanna's meticulously researched and beautifully illustrated book draws upon manuscripts, printed material, and photographs not only from the Old Colony History Museum's extensive collection, but also from riverside partners including historical organizations, public libraries, local universities, and private holdings. Hanna captures, for the first time in one publication, both the history and present-day vitality of the Taunton River.
