With the New Year on the way and the Holiday Season winding down, we wanted to thank all who participated in our gift card fundraiser and the Festival of Trees fundraiser this year. A special thanks is owed to the Friends for spearheading both these efforts. For more information about the Friends, visit their website and stay up to date on all the good work they do in support of the Library. Looking ahead to January, we are still offering a full slate of programs for all ages, including Stefani Koorey's return to Dighton for her talk titled Historic Fires of Fall River on January 23rd. We will also be bringing back our Pet Photo Contest for the month of February, so stay tuned for more information. Our new look calendar is up to date with all of our January programs, so take a look through the link to see details on all that we are offering. Don't forget we will be closed on New Year's Day and on January 20th for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Historic Fires of Fall River
Join Dr. Stefani Koorey at Old Town Hall on Thursday January 23rd at 6:30 as she gives an in depth discussion of the history presented in her book, Historic Fires of Fall River. Fall River's textile boom in the 19th century brought with it a series of fiery disasters. The Big Fire of 1843 left more than 1,000 people homeless and destroyed 200 buildings and over 20 acres of land. After the Steiger Store Fire of 1916, mill owners pushed the city to replace horse-drawn brigades with fire engines. The intense heat from the Kerr Mill Thread Fire of 1987 melted hoses as first responders battled the blaze. Stefani will not only chronicle the historic infernos of the Spindle City, but will celebrate the community's resilience in the face of adversity.

Join the Traveling Book Group and travel around the world through books. This month, the book club will follow Riley MacPherson's story of love, loss, and the bonds among siblings by reading The Silent Sister by Diane Chamberlain on Wednesday January 29th in the Children's Section located in the Lower Level of the Town Hall at 6:00. Copies of books are available at the library for anybody looking to take part in the group. The Traveling Book Group meets on the last Wednesday of each month, and anybody interested is welcome to attend.
