September marks the one year anniversary in our new Library, and we are planning a day of fun activities, party games, and free cake on Saturday September 19th to celebrate the accomplishment. Everybody is invited! We will also be unveiling commemorative plaques to recognize everybody who made our first year possible. Honoria Dasilva-Kilgore of Personal College Counseling Inc. (PCCI) will be at the Library on September 10th to lead a workshop full of helpful tips and advice for students and parents looking to engage in the college application process. For those looking for a creative outlet, the Library is hosting Needlework Night on September 3rd, and local artist Ann Meitzen will be leading an artist trading card workshop on September 17th. Cooking Club resumes this month on September 17th, and the theme will be recipes using tomatoes. September also marks the return of our Thursday morning yoga classes, with the first session scheduled for September 10th at Old Town Hall, so call the Library at (508) 669-6421 to reserve your spot. The Mah Jongg club meets every Thursday and will offer lessons for any new and interested players on September 10th, 17th, and 24th, so call the Library to sign up for these lessons if you are interested. Even though school starts in September, our Children's programs are continuing with our regularly scheduled Tot Time and Movie Nights all month long. Homeschool Group resumes on September 23rd. Registration is still open for the Friends Fourth Annual Golf Tournament! CLICK HERE for all the tournament details, including for information on how to register as a golfer or buy a ticket for the dinner. Sponsorship forms are also available on the Library's website for anybody interested in contributing. Speaking of the Friends, their next meeting is September 23rd at 4:30 in the Reading Room, and all are welcome to attend. College Admissions Workshop

Those in attendance will learn about choosing colleges or universities, getting the best financial package, maximizing merit scholarship dollars, and more! The workshop is open to all Freshmen, Sophmores, Juniors, and their families, and there will be ample time left at the end of the program for all in attendance to ask any number of questions. Artist Trading Card Workshop |

Have you ever heard of Artist Trading Cards (ATC)? They are the perfect fun, economical, and easy way to share your creativity with other artists and potential customers, and the Library will be hosting an ATC workshop on Thursday September 17th at 6:00 in the Program Room. Local artist Ann Meitzen will explain how they work and guide participants through the process. This program is free to attend, no registration is required, and all supplies will be provided. |

Stop by the Library on Saturday September 19th any time during our open hours of 10:00 to 2:00 and help us celebrate one year in our new building! There will be party games for children of all ages, snacks, prizes, and of course a big birthday cake so that everybody can get a slice. Join the Traveling Book Club and travel around the world through books! This month, the book club will travel to Maine and explore a remodeled Victorian house that many believe to be haunted by reading The Cliffs by J. Courtney Sullivan for discussion on Thursday September 24th at 6:00 in the Reading Room. Copies of the book are available at the Library. The Traveling Book Club meets on the last Thursday of each month, and anybody interested in joining is welcome to attend. |

Join the Nonfiction Book Club and read about a different subject each month. This month, the book club will explore the development and conquest of human societies by reading Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies by Jared Diamond for discussion on Saturday September 26th at 12:00 in the Reading Room. Copies of the book are available at the Library. The Nonfiction Book Club meets on the fourth Saturday of each month, and anybody interested is welcome. |

The first Thursday of each month is Needlework Night. Bring all your knitting, crochet, and needlework projects on Thursday September 3rd at 6:00 and be among fellow needlepoint enthusiasts to trade tips and work together. There will be needlepoint teachers on hand to help instruct those looking to learn new skills. Needlework night is free to attend. All levels of experience are welcome, and no registration is required. |

The Cooking Club's next meeting will be on Thursday September 17th at 3:00 in the Program Room. The Club meets on the third Thursday of each month with a different theme each meeting. September's theme will be "tomatoes: they're not just for salads." Anybody interested in participating should register in advance by calling the Library at (508) 669-6421. Participants will be notified how many servings they should bring and should also bring copies of their recipes. |

Calling all American Mah Jongg mavins! The Mah Jongg Club meets every Thursday at the Library from 5:00-7:00 in the Teen Room. All are welcome from every experience level ages 13 and up, and no registration required. For anybody interested in learning the game, we will be offering lessons on September 10th, September 17th, and September 24th. |

Pet Photo Contest Begins October 1st
|
|
E-mail your cute, funny, or unusual pet photo to Ms. Lorie to enter the October pet photo contest. The pictures will be laminated and then hung along the ramp leading up to the Children's Section. Each photo will be given a number so that everyone can vote for their favorite pet photo. Photo entries will also appear on Dighton Public Access Channel 95, so look for them there as well. Rules:- Include the name of the pet, name of the person entering the photo, and the age of the photographer.
- E-mail the picture so it can be printed as an 8x10.
- Each child can submit a photo of a pet.
- Pictures must be submitted by October 1st.
- Voting will begin on October 1st and end on November 1st.
- You can vote every time you visit the Children's Section.
Prizes will be awarded to the winning Child's photo and Adult's photo! |

Next Meeting The next meeting of the Friends of the Dighton Public Library will be on Wednesday September 23rd at 4:30 in the Library's Reading Room. All are welcome, and we always welcome new friends. All you really need to do is love the library and join us for a few meetings a year to help brainstorm and plan great events! |
