It is certainly an exciting time as our new Library nears completion. In anticipation of our Grand Opening, please join Library Director Mark Procknik at Old Town Hall on Thursday August 28th at 6:30 for a special preview of our new Library complete with updated photographs of the building's interior. Stay tuned for more details on the Grand Opening date, and follow us on Facebook to receive all our building updates and announcements. Even though we are looking forward to our new building, we are still offering a full slate of August programs in our current locations. Our Children's Section continues to host summer craft activities every Monday at 1:00, so please join us for chalk art on August 4th, camp out crafts on August 11th, and polymer clay on August 18th. Mark your calendars for a special story time with a firefighter on August 21st at 1:00 where children will have the opportunity to see a real fire truck up close and in person. There is still time to enter August's pet photo contest if you e-mail your photo to Miss Lorie by August 1st. Check our calendar to see our full slate of programs, and don't forget that August is the last month to redeem your summer reading prizes. The Friends are also pleased to announce that sponsorship forms are now available for the October 5th Golf Tournament at Swansea Country Club. Renovation Photographs of 207 Main Street
The original hardwood in the Main Hall and Children's Section has been refinished, while new carpet has been installed in the foyer, entryway, and ramp. Vinyl planking has also been installed in the Program Room, Staff Office, and restrooms.
Friends of the Library Third Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser

August Programs
207 Main Street Grand Opening Preview
Join Library Director Mark Procknik on Thursday August 28th at 6:30 at Old Town Hall for a preview of our new Library at 207 Main Street. Mark will have photographs of the interior and highlight all the renovations and work that has been completed on the building. Mark will also talk about the festivities scheduled for our highly anticipated Grand Opening. This program is free to attend, and no registration is required.
Traveling Book Group
Join the Traveling Book Group and travel around the world through books. This month, the book club will travel to the world of an upscale hotel maid and unravel a mystery by reading The Maid by Nita Prose for discussion on Wednesday August 27th in the Children's Section located in the Lower Level of the Town Hall at 6:00. Copies of books are available at the Library for anybody looking to take part. The Traveling Book Group meets on the last Wednesday of each month, and anybody interested is welcome to attend.

Six Thursday Sessions

You are invited to our introductory yoga sessions with No Place Like Om - Yoga with a Physical Therapist. 
 
Enjoy a 60 minute vinyasa (flow) class. Learn to pair breath with movement to help quiet your mind while gaining strength and flexibility, in addition to having fun along the way. 
 
All levels are welcome - no previous yoga experience required.

Summer Bird Walk Schedule
Bring binoculars and join Miss Lorie for a Bird Walk every Wednesday morning at 7:30 through August 20th.  Each Wednesday will explore a different place. The full schedule is listed below, but feel free to call the Library at (508) 669-6421 for more information.

Tot Time
 
Join Ms. Lorie Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 in August for songs, stories, and finger-plays for children between the ages of 18 months and 3 years.
Stories in the Park
 
Join Miss Lorie for Stories in the Park every Wednesday at noon. Families are invited to bring a picnic lunch and listen to stories while they eat.
Monday at the Movies
 
Every Monday at 6:00 we will show a movie. Each child will receive tickets to claim a drink and snacks. The August listings are below. Visit the calendar to see the full lineup.

Story Time with a Firefighter
Stop by the Children's Section on Thursday August 21th at 1:00 for a very special story time presented by Firefighter Sarah! She will read some stories and children will have the opportunity to ask questions and chat with a real firefighter. Firefighter Sarah will arrive with a real fire truck for children to see up close. All are welcome and no registration is required.
 
Summer Reading
Summer Reading All Summer Long!
 
Children are invited to sign up for the Read to Bead program. They will get a chain with a tag of their choice plus they can pick out a colored bead for every 15 minutes they spend reading.
For every five hours, children will earn a scratch ticket to win a special prize. Every scratch ticket is a winner, so there are plenty of cool prizes available for everybody! The D-R School District has posted the Elementary School, Middle School, and High School summer reading lists for anybody interested in looking through all the assigned titles.
Monday Afternoon Craft Programs
Stop by the Children's Section every Monday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 during the summer and enjoy a different activity. The schedule for August is below, but check our calendar for the full summer listing so that you don't miss any of the fun activities we have planned.

Color of the Week
Wear the color of the week to the Library during the summer and pick out a lollipop. The weekly colors for July are below, but visit the Children's Section or call the Library at (508) 669-4421 for more information.

Pet Photo Contest: Begins August 1st
There is still time to enter the August photo contest. E-mail your cute, funny, or unusual pet photo to Ms. Lorie to enter. The pictures will be laminated and then hung in the entry hallway by the Children's Section. Each photo will be given a number so that everyone can vote for their favorite pet photo.
 
Rules:
  • Include the name of the pet, name of the person entering the photo, and the age of the photographer.
  • E-mail the picture so it can be printed as an 8x10.
  • Each child can submit a photo of a pet.
  • Pictures must be submitted by August 1st.
  • Voting will begin on August 1st and end on August 30th.
  • You can vote every time you visit the Children's Section.
Prizes will be awarded to the winning Child's photo and Adult's photo!

Next Meeting
The next meeting of the Friends of the Dighton Public Library will be on Thursday August 14th at 6:30 in the Library's Children's Section located in the lower level of Dighton Town Hall.
 
All are welcome, and we always welcome new friends. All you really need to do is love the library and join us for a few meetings a year to help brainstorm and plan great events!
