June is almost here, and the Dighton Public Library is gearing up for our summer programs. Summer Reading officially begins on June 27th, and we are once again doing the Read to Bead program in addition to providing scratch tickets for children to win a whole host of great prizes, so stop by and see Miss Lorie to sign up. We are also offering a summer reading BINGO program for adults beginning on June 27th, so anybody interested can pick up a BINGO sheet from Laura the Librarian. On June 11th, the Library will welcome author Ted Reinstein for a talk focused on our nation's founding. For those looking for a creative way to celebrate the 250th, we will be hosting a patriotic sewing craft night on June 4th. Cooking Club will meet on June 18th with a theme of strawberries, and we will also be hosting a healthy lifestyle cooking class on June 20th. In collaboration with the Taunton River Watershed Alliance, we will be offering a panel discussion on June 18th where three local artists will present on their techniques and inspirations. The first meeting of our Nonfiction Book Club will be on June 27th, and all who enjoy nonfiction are welcome. We will be offering evening yoga classes this summer beginning on June 25th, so call the Library at (508) 669-6421 if you are interested in signing up. The Library is excited to offer Mango Languages, and your Dighton Public Library card entitles you to use this language learning database for free! You can create an account with your library card number and start learning today by clicking HERE. We have also subscribed to Little Pim, Mango's specialized database geared toward language lessons for children. Parents can access Little Pim by clicking HERE. Patriotic Sewing Craft Night

Attention all crafters! Stop by the Program Room on Thursday June 4th at 6:00 and channel your inner Betsy Ross. The Library will proudly welcome guest sewing teacher, local business owner and sewing enthusiast Tammy Rugeri, to guide everybody through the process of sewing a patriotic cloth trivet in honor of our country's 250th Anniversary. Join local author Ted Reinstein on Thursday June 11th at 6:00 in the Program Room to commemorate America's 250th. Years before independence was achieved, events took place that would shape how the new nation would look back at its founding. If you like history, want to celebrate our nation's birthday, enjoy learning a story behind the story, or just want a good laugh along with your 250th, then this program drawn from nearly three decades of Ted's reporting across New England is for you. Presented by the Friends of the Dighton Public Library. This program is free to attend, and no registration is required.

Local Artist Panel: Nature as Inspiration

Are you an artist? Does nature inspire you in some way? Then visit the Library on Thursday June 18th at 6:00 in the Program Room and join a conversation with local artists and photographers to learn about their backgrounds, styles, and inspirations, in addition to picking up a few tips to help with your own artistic crafts. Featured guests include Jen O'Keefe, Devin McLaughlin, and Pamela Lowell. This program is free to attend and no registration is required. Healthy Lifestyle Cooking Class

Do you like to cook? Then join local author and Dighton native Rosalyn Price English in the Program Room on Saturday June 20th at 11:30 as she presents recipes from her book The Whole Foods Plant-Based Handbook and serves some samples to tempt your palates! In this fun and informative presentation, Rosalyn will share her tips for making sustainable choices to support a healthy and balanced life full of delicious food. Rosalyn will demonstrate money saving food hacks using delicious and nutritious ingredients while sharing her knowledge of cooking, farm to table recipes, and creative ways to add color and fresh local produce to your menu that will spice up your life. This class is free, and no registration is required.

Join the Traveling Book Group and travel around the world through books! This month, the book club will travel to prohibition era Brooklyn by reading The Love Elixir of Augusta Stern by Lynda Cohen Loigman for discussion on Thursday June 25th at 6:00 in the Reading Room. Copies of the book are available at the Library. The Traveling Book Group meets on the last Thursday of each month, and anybody interested is welcome.

Join the Nonfiction Book Club for its inaugural meeting. This month, the book club will highlight America's 250th birthday by reading 1776 by David McCullough for discussion on Saturday June 27th at 12:00 in the Reading Room. Copies of the book are available at the Library. The Nonfiction Book Club meets on the fourth Saturday of each month, and anybody interested is welcome.

The first Thursday of each month is Needlework Night. Bring all your knitting, crochet, and needlework projects on Thursday June 4th at 6:00 and be among fellow needlepoint enthusiasts to trade tips and work together. There will be needlepoint teachers on hand to help instruct those looking to learn new skills. Needlework night is free to attend. All levels of experience are welcome, and no registration is required.

The Cooking Club's next meeting will be on Thursday June 18th at 3:00 in the Program Room. The Club meets on the third Thursday of each month with a different theme each meeting. June's theme will be strawberries. Anybody interested in participating should register in advance by calling the Library at (508) 669-6421 and can use our A to Z World Foods database on our website for recipe ideas. Participants will be notified one week prior to each meeting how many servings they should bring. Participants should also bring copies of the recipe to share.

Calling all American Mah Jongg mavins! The Mah Jongg Club meets every Thursday at the Library from 5:00-7:00 in the Teen Room. All are welcome from every experience level ages 13 and up, and no registration required.

Free Community Yoga Three Summer Evening Sessions Old Town Hall (1111 Somerset Avenue) Thursday June 25th at 6:00 Thursday July 23rd at 6:00 Thursday August 27th at 6:00 You are invited to our introductory yoga sessions with No Place Like Om - Yoga with a Physical Therapist. Summer Programs and Activities

Summer Reading Begins June 27th! Children are invited to sign up for the Read to Bead program. They will get a chain with a tag of their choice plus they can pick out a colored bead for every 15 minutes they spend reading. For every five hours, children will earn a scratch ticket to win special prize. Every scratch ticket is a winner, so there are plenty of cool prizes available for everybody!

Wednesday Afternoon Programs Stop by the Program Room every Wednesday afternoon in July and August and enjoy a different activity. Each Wednesday throughout the summer beginning in July will feature something new, so check our calendar during the summer months so you do not miss any of these activities, including cat crafts, spray dye t-shirts, polymer clay crafts, and more.

Movie Matinees Looking for something cool to do on hot summer afternoons? Then spend a couple of hours in the library on Mondays and Fridays in July and August while you enjoy a movie. Check our calendar for the full movie listings!

Next Meeting The next meeting of the Friends of the Dighton Public Library will be on Thursday August 6th at 4:30 in the Library's Reading Room. All are welcome, and we always welcome new friends. All you really need to do is love the library and join us for a few meetings a year to help brainstorm and plan great events!

Fourth Annual Golf Tournament The Friends Fourth Annual Golf Tournament will be on Sunday October 4th at Swansea Country Club. More information will follow, so stay tuned for more details on this fundraiser. Registration information will be available beginning on July 1st. Stay Tuned!
