Dighton Public Library
February 2026
Snow may be falling, but that hasn't slowed down our February programming. Local author James Wadsworth returns to Dighton on Saturday February 7th to host a creative writing workshop for all aspiring writers. Tim Walker comes to Dighton on Thursday February 12th to present on the history of chocolate. American Mah Jongg lessons start on February 12th and will run for every Thursday in February, and the Cooking Club's next meeting will be February 26th. For those looking for a creative outlet, we are hosting Needlework Night on February 5th, a drawing class on February 26th, and local artist and teacher Robin Franczyk will be at the Library to lead a watercolor class on February 19th. We also have a full slate of children's activities lined up for February vacation, including game day on the 17th, a pirate-themed party on the 18th, and a painting class on the 19th, in addition to a puzzle day where teams of four can compete against each other to see who can complete a puzzle the fastest. The Library is also proud to partner with Global Hearts Learning on Saturday February 28th to offer Spanish for Kids, an interactive class where children can learn some Spanish. Don't forget to check our calendar to see everything else we will be offering in February. Please note that the Library will be closed on Monday February 16th for Presidents Day.

February Programs
Creative Writing Workshop
Join local author James Wadsworth on Saturday February 7th at 11:00 in the Program Room for a creative writing workshop dedicated to story structure. Knowledge of story and how to apply it in writing is key to creating stories that readers enjoy. Participants will learn why story structure matters explore the three-act story structure common in Hollywood films and best selling novels. This program is free to attend and no registration is required.
A History of Chocolate
Where does chocolate come from? How did it arrive in colonial New England, and how was cocoa made in early America? Did New England Mariners drink chocolate at sea? Come learn the answers to these questions and much more! Join Tim Walker of UMASS Dartmouth on Thursday February 12th at 6:00 in the Program Room for a lively discussion on the history of chocolate and the content he contributed to the publication Chocolate: History, Culture, and Heritage. This program is free of charge and no registration is required.
Needlework Night
The first Thursday of each month is Needlework Night. Bring all your knitting, crochet, and needlework projects on Thursday February 5th at 6:00 in the Program Room and be among fellow needlepoint enthusiasts to trade tips and work together. There will be needlepoint teachers on hand to help instruct those looking to learn new skills. Needlework night is free to attend. All levels of experience are welcome, and no registration is required.

Watercolor Paint Class

Do you enjoy painting? Do you have an interest in watercolors? Then join teacher and local artist Robin Franczyk on Thursday February 19th at 6:00 in the Program Room and create a work of art with water colors. Robin will instruct all in attendance to create a masterpiece that everybody can bring home to display with pride. All levels of experience are welcome, but registration is required. Cooking Club
The Cooking Club will meet on Thursday February 26th at 3:00 in the Program Room. The Club meets monthly with a different theme each month. February's theme will be a recipe from a cold weather country. Anybody interested in participating should register in advance by calling the Library at (508) 669-6421, and can use our A to Z World Foods database available on our website for recipe ideas. Participants will be notified one week prior to each meeting how many servings they should bring. Participants should also bring copies of the recipe to share with other participants in the Cooking Club.
International Cooking Festival
Drawing Class
Do you like to draw? Have you ever wanted to learn a few new tips to help take your drawings to the next level? Then join local artist Misty Connor on Thursday February 26th at 4:30 in the Program Room for a free fantasy drawing class. All levels of experience are welcome, but registration is required, so please call the Library at (508) 669-6421 to reserve your seat.
American Mah Jongg Lessons
Have you ever heard of American Mah Jongg? Ever wanted to learn how to play? The Library is offering free American Mah Jongg lessons every Thursday in February beginning on February 12th at 4:00 in the Teen Room. All are welcome from ages 13 and up, and no experience is necessary. These lessons are free to attend, but registration is required. Call the Library to reserve your seat at the table.
Traveling Book Group
Join the Traveling Book Group and travel around the world through books. This month, the book club will travel to North Carolina and learn the true meaning of love and forgiveness through the experiences of an injured Navy doctor by reading The Return by Nicholas Sparks for discussion on Thursday February 26th in the Program Room at 6:00. Copies of the book are available at the Library, and anybody interested is welcome to attend. The Traveling Book Group meets on the last Thursday of each month.

Tot Time
 
Join Ms. Lorie Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 in February for songs, stories, and finger-plays for children between the ages of 18 months and 3 years.
Wednesday Movie Nights
 
Every Wednesday at 6:00 we will show a movie. Each child will receive tickets to claim a drink and snacks. The February listings are below. Visit the calendar to see the full lineup.
 
Homeschool Group
 
Are you a homeschool family? Then visit the Program Room every Wednesday at 1:00. Miss Lorie will read a chapter book and lead a craft based on the story.
 
Story Time
 
Stop in and visit Miss Lorie for Story Time every Thursday at 1:00 in the Program Room. Listen to a few fun stories and then create a fun craft to take home.

Spanish for Kids

The Library is excited to partner with Global Hearts Learning to offer Spanish for Kids on Saturday February 28th at 12:30 in the Program Room. Spanish for Kids is a fun and interactive class designed for children ages 5 - 10. Through songs, games, visuals, and simple conversation, children are introduced to basic Spanish vocabulary and the cultures of Spanish-speaking  countries in a warm and engaging environment.  No prior Spanish experience is needed, but registration is required. Puzzle Day
Can your team complete a jigsaw puzzle faster that your friends and neighbors? Then try your luck on Friday February 20th at 10:30 in the Program Room. Each team (ages 8+) will receive the same 500-piece jigsaw puzzle provided by the Library and will have two hours to complete it. The team that wins or completes the most before time is called wins! Teams can have up to four members. Registrations is required, so call the Library at (508) 669-6421 to reserve your team's spot.

There is still time to vote in our January Pet Photo Contest. Voting will be open until February 1st, so don't forget to stop by and vote!
