South Country Library
Weekly Update
July 18, 2020
Building community by sharing the wonders of learning, creating and connecting with one another.
Hello South Country Community,

It's the news you've been waiting for...on Monday, July 20th, our doors will once again be open to the public!

We have worked hard adjusting our layout to provide the safest experience possible for you and our staff. We have hand sanitizing stations, plastic partitions at service desks, directional arrows, 6 feet spacing markers, etc.

What we need from you is for you to wear a face mask when you are in the library (mandatory) and to limit your visit to 1 hour. We will also limit the number of patrons in the building to a maximum of 30 at a time. You'll be able to use the computers, browse & checkout materials, and receive reference assistance. Our Patron Services staff will handle copying, scanning, and faxing for you.

Unfortunately, our Children's Department will remain closed except for the Children's desk where our librarians can assist you. There will still be no programs or meetings taking place in the library and we are also asking you to continue returning all materials to the book drop. Curbside service will continue to be available and we encourage you to utilize it.

We look forward to seeing you all in-person next week and we are beyond grateful for your support and patience these past 4 months. And now...here's the rest of the Weekly Update!

COVID RENT RELIEF IS AVAILABLE
Applications must be received by Wednesday July 29

NY Homes and Community Renewal is accepting applications for rental assistance. After all applications are received, assistance will be distributed to eligible families based on economic and social need. While risk of homelessness will be considered in distributing the subsidies, tenants do NOT need to be behind on their rent or at risk of eviction to qualify. To qualify for help, applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • Primary residence of New York State.
  • Household income below a certain level before March 1, 2020
  • More than 30% of gross monthly income paid for rent before March 1 and now.
  • Lost income between April 1, 2020 to July 31.
Qualifying households are eligible for up to 4-months of rent subsidies equal to the increase in their rent burden. The payments are made directly to the applicant's landlord and do not need to be re-paid.

Click here for more information (including income limits), then visit the NYS COVID Rent Relief Program page to apply.

If you are a US Veteran who was discharged honorably, receive regular income within a certain range, and are or will soon be in need of housing, you may qualify for Habitat Suffolk's Veterans Build in Bellport.
