On the Road with Mobile Services

An overarching goal of the Bozeman Public Library (and any library, for that matter) is to help make its community a better place. This sentiment is echoed in the library’s Mission and Vision Statements, which also stipulate that we intend to serve “all Bozeman citizens,” not just those who through access to transportation and flexibility of schedule have the means to regularly access the building in our downtown location. In order to help reach our entire community, the library began working to add bookmobile service to its repertoire nearly a decade ago. When our community was asked if this was a goal you would support via the Bozeman Library Foundation’s fundraising efforts, the answer was a resounding yes.

Starting with the launch of the bookmobile in 2017, the library’s ability to engage with the community beyond its walls was strengthened. In the ensuing years, our mobile services have continued to expand and diversify to reach more and more people throughout the community, and the community has reached back with more and more interest and requests for service.

Mobile Services lowers the barriers to access for people across the entire age spectrum in Gallatin County. We hear from patrons every day that they are thankful for the library’s commitment to reach out, whether that is working with other organizations to strengthen our community systems and education or just improving an individual’s quality of life. It is a joy to be celebrated by preschoolers who look forward to our visits when their parent(s) don’t have time to take them to the library at another time, and it is humbling to interact with senior citizens who think of us as a “lifeline.”

We are thankful for your commitment to making sure the library truly is for all of our community!
