The Bozeman Public Library is excited to announce artist Sharon Glick as the winner of the banner art design competition. The winning banner designs will replace the six banners in front of the library and are expected to be installed in early November. Ms. Glick’s design was selected from 19 individual artist submission after several hours of deliberation from the review committee. Committee members chose the winning design as it exemplified the selection criteria of “vivid colors, fun, community and connection.” Ms. Glick will receive a $1,000 prize for her design provided by the Friends of the Library and the Sweet Pea Festival. Sharon Glick is a freelance illustrator and art educator whose work appears in various places including the bilingual children's book, ¡Perros! ¡Perros! Dogs! Dogs! (Greenwillow, 2006), Edible Bozeman Magazine, the Dinosaur Playground, and the Library, where she serves on the Board of the Children's Festival of the Book. She grew up outside Boston and worked at the Boston Children's Museum and on the Peabody-Award-winning Comedy Central show "Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist" before moving to Bozeman in 2003. She lives with her wife, son, daughter, dog, and cat and loves playing ice hockey.

ILL typically does not take new requests in December. However, due to COVID, ILL will be taking new requests during the first week of December this year. We hope that this will help ease the long month at home this year. Please keep in mind that few libraries are open for Lending this time of year and that the mail will be very slow due to the overwhelming load in December. Please request in November if possible. The cut off day will be Saturday, December 5th. For the health and safety of our patrons and staff, the Bookmobile will be modifying our services starting on November 4th. We will continue to visit our planned stops in order to deliver holds and to pick up returns. At this time, we will no longer be setting out a display table or helping patrons to find books on the spot. We encourage you to request books from the Bookmobile by using your library card to make holds in advance of our visit, or get in touch with wflippo@bozeman.net by email or by calling (406)582-2423 to make holds or request book recommendations.

You may have noticed, the Library has a new AMH (also known as an automated materials handler)for our returns!
Here is how it works: On one side of the machine is a conveyor belt, where patrons place books face-down on the belt. The book passes under a laser scanner, which reads the barcode on the book. The sorter communicates with the library’s central computer system to determine where the book should be headed. What does this mean for you? When returning books, please place them through the sorter one at a time! The new sorting system includes a book drop inside and outside of the Library, in the same pace as the former book drops, to support the high volume of materials the Library circulates. Open hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 10AM - 5PM Curbside pickup hours: Tuesday - Friday, 5 - 6 PM Returns: Tuesday - Friday, 10AM - 6PM; Saturday, 10AM - 5PM Closed: Sundays and Mondays

Wildfires in the West: Friday Forum Friday, November 13, 12 PM Fire is an important process that has shaped Western ecosystems for millennia. For the past several decades fire activity has been increasing across the West. Recent fires have destroyed thousands of homes, hundreds of lives have been lost, and persistent smoke from these fires has created hazardous air quality across the West. Changing climatic conditions are enabling record-setting fire seasons throughout the Western US—creating sustained periods of hot, dry weather that are conducive to fire, and warm conditions that are drying out fuels and creating explosive conditions when ignition occurs. Additionally, a growing number of homes and other structures are built in landscapes with abundant fuels, increasing the danger from fires to human health and safety. November Crafternoon Our November Crafternoon is a holiday card kit! so you can get a jump-start on your season's greetings! Supplies are limited for this kit. Email cfifles@bozeman.net to get on our list for this crafternoon to-go! Kits will be available November 17.
