Dear Readers,
Did you know that the State Library of Iowa administers an Accreditation and Standards program to develop high-quality public library services across the state? Accreditation is based on meeting specific standards outlined in the In Service to Iowa: Public Library Standards Manual. Tier 3 is the highest level.
Tier 3 requires that the library meet at least 67 of the standards and has a library director that is certified through the State Library’s Endorsement Program. I am pleased to say that the Orange City Public Library is renewing our accreditation at the Tier 3 level by achieving 83 of the 85 standards.
This accreditation provides an increased rate of financial support through the Enrich Iowa Program, as well as makes us eligible for Direct State Aid. The Governor’s recognition identifies the library as one committed to continuous improvement and service to its community.
So, I would like to say thank you to the board of trustees, the library staff, and this community for their unwavering support, an overwhelming dedication to lifelong learning, and for making the library a place to be, and the place to become.
Kind regards, Lisa Johnson, MLIS

FEATURED THIS MONTH:
Children's Area | |
|
|
The children's area of our library is a highly used space. Along with a great assortment of board books, picture books, and beginning reader books we also have a great area for play and programs.
Movin' & Groovin' Sensory Story Time is currently in session Wednesday mornings at 9:30 am and Preschool Story Time on Thursdays at 9:30 am. These are great organized times of literacy and learning for little ones, along with building community amongst the children and parents/caregivers alike.
This area also provides lots of space, and toys, for play and learning. Parents, grandparents, and children can often be found here socializing and playing with a variety of toys, whether it's the Duplo or light table, ice cream cone stackers, Little People house, magna tiles, or our new barn or checkout stand. |

If you have a small child, you may have noticed some movement of collections in the children's section of our library. These changes are not just to throw you off and prevent your child from finding their favorite Reader series (though, you may be sick of reading the same Elephant and Piggie book) - they are to create room for a new collection! We are in the process of adding the highly requested VOX books to our library! What are VOX Books? I'm so glad you asked! Each of the VOX Books has a built-in speaker, which will read the book to your child. These books are created to enhance early reading skills, primarily listening comprehension,

word recognition, and vocabulary. They are great for reluctant readers, struggling readers, and parents who are tired of rereading the same book over, and over, and over, and over, and... you get the point. With a variety of new and popular titles, come check some out for your kiddos today!
