Hi Readers,
Now that it is spring, it is time to tweet a little about one Victoria Brander, our Education and Literacy Librarian. Victoria has been full time with the library just over a year. Recently she was awarded a scholarship from the Public Library Association to attend the 2026 PLA conference in Minneapolis, where she will attend professional development sessions, meet authors, introduce herself to vendors, and have fun doing it!
Victoria is already a dynamic player in the library field. In January, the Programming Librarian newsletter from ALA featured her program Novel Brews. This partnership with Kweken Co. paired coffee drinks with books. The pairings covered a variety of genres and story lines. The article included tips and a slide deck to make sure that librarians across the country can pair up with their own local coffee shops for their own novel brews.
Warm regards, Lisa Johnson

FEATURED THIS MONTH:
Community Feedback | |
The library is continually working on developing and planning programs and events for the community to attend, learn from, and enjoy. We would love the public's feedback to give us a clearer vision of what the Orange City community is interested in attending at the library, and which days and times work best for most people.
Your feedback is important to us, so upon your completion of the survey your name will be put into a drawing for a $25 gift card. Responses will be accepted until June 1. Households with multiple age groups may complete the survey once for each age group applicable.

BOOK TALK:
"Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel García Márquez | |
Gabriel García Márquez is a Colombian author. He died in 2014, a prominent writer in the magical realist movement.
There are reasons that authors stand out from the crowd. The work of Gabriel García Márquez is that easy, fluid prose that both puts you at ease in the story with his descriptions of everyday familiar experiences, yet challenges one's perceptions by highlighting the complexities therein. His writing is a lesson in humanity and inhumanity masking as a love story. Florentino Ariza fell in love at first sight. That was over 50 years ago. Now Fermina Daza is a widow of the prominent Dr. Juvenal Urbino. Will Florentino once again be rejected? |
This is a love story, but not simply so. It is about much more. Vice. Jealousy. Obsession. Desire. Pity. And vengeance. It is an exposé on the selfishness of the soul. No, this book is not about love. It is about everything but love. -submitted by Lisa |
