About the Friends

Who are the Friends?
Friends of West Slope Community Library is a 502-C3 nonprofit association. We have members and a board of directors. The annual membership meeting is held in the spring to elect our board of directors. The board of directors meets quarterly.

Our purpose is to increase public interest and participation in our library and to support our library’s collection, activities, and fiscal well-being.

What do the Friends do?
We help pay for books, programs and special items for our library, such as furniture or equipment. Our library is funded through Washington County property taxes. When regular county funding is restricted, money raised by the Friends is used to help narrow the funding gap with increased support of library purchases, such as books. We also publish a newsletter twice a year.

How are the Friends funded?
Funding for the Friends comes from memberships, donations, bequests, and events such as our in-house book sale, annual tulip sale, and through West Slope Library patrons using the Bottle Drop and Fred Meyer Community Rewards.

How do I join or renew Friends membership?
You can become a member any time by giving a cash donation. You may also become a member by volunteering or by in-kind donations. Click here for more information and the form.

A Message From Our President

Hello Friends,

Spring is just around the corner (despite a couple of snow days), and I’m very excited to share with you some details about three upcoming library fundraisers.

The friends beloved Annual Tulip Sale will be held Thursday, March 30 through Sunday April 2. Come visit our volunteers in front of the library during regular library hours to purchase beautiful bunches of tulips from the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm. These gorgeous spots of color will bring a smile to your face and a breath of Spring to your home.

In conjunction with the Annual Tulip Sale, a Used Book $5 Bag Sale will be running on Saturday April 1. Buy your tulips and then head inside the library to pick up some amazing deals for your entire family. Fill up a grocery bag with gently used books for only $5. We’ll provide the bags!

The Friends recent BottleDrop bottle and can collection drop-off was so successful, we’re now setting up more collection dates at the library parking lot. The additional dates for drop-off are April 8, July 8, and October 14, from 10am to 2pm. You can bring your cans and bottles to the library in anything and volunteers will put them into BottleDrop blue donation bags. Or you can also ask for your own blue bags in the weeks beforehand inside the library. Make sure to save up all your cans and bottles forth the upcoming donation days!

We appreciate your continued support of the Friends’ mission to support library programs by participating in these fundraisers. They really do work . . .  as you can see in the update on our home page. Want to volunteer to help with a fundraiser? Email us at friendsofwsl@gmail.com. Thanks again for being great Friends!
