The cultural landscape of Colorado Springs has been impacted over the years by the work of local classical and jazz music legend Peggy Shivers and her late husband, visual artist Clarence Shivers. These Pikes Peak region philanthropists have done much to support education and the arts through their foundation, Shivers Fund at PPLD, and their work continues to help our community thrive. Read their story in the spring issue of District Discovery magazine! The Chuck Asay Exhibit, The Names Change but Issues Stay the Same, is on display at Penrose Library until the end of May. During his career, Asay worked at the Taos News, the Colorado Springs Sun, and briefly for The Denver Post, and was the featured political cartoonist for The Gazette for more than 20 years. The exhibit features more than 30 of Asay's cartoons alongside reflective commentary from the artist himself. Learn more at ppld.org/Chuck-Asay #PoliticalCartoon #ChuckAsay

Do you know a teen looking for something interesting to do this summer? Time is running out to apply to be a Summer Adventure volunteer with the Library! Our summer teen volunteers help us hand out prizes, register participants, and help with programs. It's a fun experience that looks good on college or job applications. We have seen volunteers, both teen and adult, go above and beyond to pull/process/file holds, dust stacks, shift stacks, and prep for and help out during events and programs (especially Summer Adventure!). Shoutout to our Paws to Read volunteers as well, who support young children learning to read aloud. Additional thank you to Friends of the Pikes Peak Library District. Your work means book donations get logged, there are two book sales each year, and the bookstores are open at our Library locations. Interested in volunteering at the Library? Exciting 3D printer changes coming soon! We're upgrading makerspaces at East and Sand Creek libraries, as well as Library 21c, with Original Prusa MK4 3D printers. These printers are known for faster printing speeds, being less costly, having better air filtration, and featuring a reasonably sized bed plate. These will be available for reservation starting on Tue., April 30. We are previewing this machine in the Library 21c makerspace during All Pikes Meak Makes this weekend! All Pikes Peak Makes will be on Sat., April 27 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. #PublicLibrary #LibraryMaker #3DPrinter #LibraryTechnology

Happy National Volunteer Week! Here are just a few words of appreciation from Library staff recognizing our amazing volunteers: Thank you to Cheyenne Mountain Library's teen volunteers who have helped us create the majestic Chinese dragon for Lunar New Year. It's probably the coolest thing we've made for the library in recent history and the feedback from the community has been epic! Big thanks to the PPLD Board of Trustees, who volunteer their time and service to the Library and our community with no monetary compensation. The volunteers at Ruth Holley Library have been incredibly helpful, both with the tasks which they accomplish & with the extra tasks staff can accomplish when the volunteers are present. The circulation volunteers at Rockrimmon Library are amazing. They are efficient and willing to help out where needed. Interested in volunteering at the Library?
