| 2024 CLIMATE SERIES |

|

Living in a Climate-Changed World Program Series
Over the past three years, York Public Library has worked with community partners to present educational talks about varying aspects of climate change. This year, we are delighted to continue our partnership with York Ready for Climate Action, as well as integrate York Land Trust as a collaborator!
In 2024, our theme is rethinking how we live in our already climate-changed world. Throughout the program series, we will look at how we need to transition our thinking away from learning about the issues to reconsidering how to make larger adjustments in our community.
Some programs will be on Zoom, and others will be in person. More information can be found at yorkpubliclibrary.org/climate, which will be updated as details are finalized.
Did you notice we're starting this series later than usual? It just so happens our kick-off speaker thought there was a good chance he'd be in jail due to some climate activism, which is a very compelling reason to push it a week! |

Wednesday, Feb. 28 7:00 PM Virtual Program--Zoom
Join author, educator, and environmentalist Bill McKibben for a discussion on the current state of the climate crisis. He’ll share what he sees as climate action priorities right now, and his recommendations on how we, collectively, move toward that goal. Joining Bill will be members of the Maine chapter of Third Act, a nation-wide group he founded which organizes people over the age of 60 for action on climate and justice. We'll also hear from Anna Siegel from Maine Youth for Climate Justice, to talk about the ways Maine youth are engaging in local and national activism. |

Irish Book Club:
The Heart's Invisible Furies Thursday, Feb. 15 2:00 PM
Virtual Program
In 1945, Cyril Avery was born to an unmarried teenager (the book opens with a dramatic scene in a rural Irish church that sets this up with relish) and adopted by a wealthy if rather eccentric Dublin couple. As readers, we visit Cyril every seven years, as he grows and comes to terms with his homosexuality in a violently repressive Ireland, flees his home country, and falls in love. An absorbing story, this novel offers richly drawn characters, plausibly life-altering choices, and an often humorous writing style. |

Author Talk:
The Stones of Alisa Craig Tuesday, Feb. 20 6:30 PM
Upper Level
Maine author and curler David Florig will read from and discuss his debut novel, The Stones of Ailsa Craig. Have you ever wondered about the sport of curling? What is it with the ice, the stone, and the broom that has captured the interest of millions of fans and found its place in the Olympics? Florig’s historical fiction novel, set in present-day Belfast, Maine, and in 1880s Scotland is centered around the ancient Scottish sport of curling and features a foreword by Olympic curler Tara Peterson. |
