While some of our regular weekly programs are still on summer break until September, the Library is anything but quiet! There’s a lot happening behind the scenes... and out in the open! If you passed by giant heap of metal near the library's main entrance, that is—was—our old boiler. (Pardon our mess!) We finished up the Summer Challenge with nearly 700 registrants! Our Teen Room is getting a much needed makeover (courtesy Yorkwise) and, thanks to newly installed access points, Wi-Fi coverage is now greatly improved throughout the building. Visitors will notice better Wi-Fi inside and even out into the parking lot. Reference and Technology Librarian Devin reports that parking lot coverage isn't "knock your socks off good, but a big improvement." So if you're enjoying a sunny spot on the grounds, you should be able to connect without incident. Remember, you don't need a password to use library Wi-Fi; you should see it listed on your device under available connections.
We're bidding a fond farewell to two library staffers this month, but we are delighted to announce that we now have a new Head of Youth Services. Please join us in giving Jo a warm welcome!
Enjoy your last full month of summer!

Welcome Jo Palin, Head of Youth Services |
Jo comes to YPL from beautiful New Hampshire where she worked as an elementary school librarian for 14 years. She has always called Maine home, too, as she summered in Ogunquit her whole life. Her family is still in this area, and she feels she has come full circle with her return to greater York. She lives in Wells with her husband. They have three grown children, all doing their own thing now and she sees them as often as she can. She is a beach lover, an avid reader of "kid-lit" and adult thrillers/murder mysteries, and loves all things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Harry Potter World Welcome, Jo!
Be sure to say "hello" to Jo at our upcoming Open House for kids 5th grade + and their families on August 28! |

We'll Miss You, Karen and Sophie! |
Our amazing programming librarian, Karen Blass, is relocating out-of-state to be closer to family later this month. In her time with YPL she has brought fascinating and inspired programs to our community, and has truly taken library offerings to the next level! She will be sorely missed! We've also said goodbye to another library team member: our Children's Room clerk, Sophie, who is off to college in the fall. We are so accustomed to seeing her smiling face at the Children's Circulation Desk, helping with whatever needs doing, from craft preparation to book reshelving and everything in between. We'll miss her dearly!
Karen and Sophie have been tremendous members of the team. Please join us in wishing both of these wonderful, capable people the best as they pursue their exciting next chapters! |
