This Thursday: Juneteenth
Juneteenth, also called Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. This significant day of historical and cultural importance marks the end of slavery in the United States.

It was on June 19, 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced General Order No. 3, which ordered that all remaining U.S. slaves be freed. The 250,000 slaves were among the last in the United States, residing in states that were not part of the Confederacy. The announcement came nearly two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Read more in this blog.

Find books for kids, teens and adults at the library.

In observance of Juneteenth, our libraries will be closed and services unavailable on Thursday, June 19. Visit our Online Library for additional resources.
And the Winner Are...
The Eating Disorders Resource Center (EDRC) of Silicon Valley has announced the winners of the 16th annual Be-YOU-Tiful multimedia contest.

Bay Area students were invited to submit pieces that creatively addressed their perspectives, experiences, and emotions surrounding this year’s theme of mental health, identity, self-acceptance, and self-care.

View 2025 winners and their entries on the Eating Disorders Resource Center website.

The EDRC aims to promote self and body acceptance, increase media literacy, and empower youth to challenge harmful diet culture ideals head-on, all of which can play a pivotal role in preventing the onset of eating disorders among younger generations.
