Parks are Where You Belong!

July is National Park and Recreation Month, a time to “promote building strong, vibrant, and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation.” This year's theme is “Where You Belong.”

The County of Santa Clara has 28 regional parks that make up more than 52,000 acres. Find the free events through the County Parks website. Before you head out, make sure to stop by the library and borrow free County Park passes or State Park passes.

MORE FROM THE LIBRARY

Celebrating All Types of Ability
July is Disabled Pride Month, marking the 1990 passage of the landmark "Americans with Disabilities Act" (ADA). Pride in being differently abled is about focusing on each person’s uniqueness instead of defining them by what they cannot do or have difficulty doing. Advocacy groups and the County’s Office of Disability Affairs are good resources for information about these issues.

According to Pew Research, tens of millions of Americans live with some kind of disability, be it physical, mental or other. SCCLD offers many services to ensure that all patrons have full access to resources. These include a BookDash Home Delivery service for those who cannot come into a library, access to Braille and audiobooks, magazines and playback devices, and assistance with American Sign Language interpretation at library events. Staff at our Community Libraries can also assist with requests for assistance.

New County Program:
Caregiver Returnership Program
The County of Santa Clara has created a Caregiver Returnship Program to bridge the gap between individuals who have stepped away from the workforce due to caregiving obligations and existing County job opportunities.

This program is being piloted this year to bring 10 returners into a public service career through a 9-month placement within the County with a potential pathway towards permanent employment.

View this Board of Supervisors Memo for a list of 215 positions, varying in entry-, mid-, and senior-levels, throughout County departments that are set aside for returners. View the job specifications and corresponding salary ranges for each position. You must submit an application by Sunday, July 21.

Brush up on your job skills by visiting our Career & Job Skills webpage, filled with resources to help learn new skills or expand your education. Resources include Brainfuse JobNow and LinkedIn Learning.

Mahalo Chuck, and a hui hou!

We welcome Megan Holland in her new role as Financial & Administrative Services Manager. She comes to SCCLD with 18 years of financial and administrative experience, with time spent in San Benito County and Santa Cruz County.
