Back to School Time! It’s back to school time for students across Santa Clara County. Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) libraries are ready to help students of all ages succeed. Be sure your student has a library card -- It’s the most important school supply! Students (and educators) can find books and research materials on different topics in our libraries, Bookmobile, and Online Library. Our librarians are ready to help patrons find the right resources, including those geared specifically toward students. Check out this blog that highlights some great free resources we offer to help students excel. One of them is Brainfuse HelpNow, which provides free daily online tutoring for grades K-12. Students can get help with math, science, social studies, English and language arts, test prep, and more. Tutoring is available in English and Spanish. Find it here. Students at participating public schools within our service area receive Student eAccounts, which allow them to access quality online information and resources. Students with eAccounts have access to dedicated Student Portals (elementary/middle and high school) which highlight and organize our online student resources according to school subjects for ease of use. Welcome back students, teachers, administrators, and families!

Virtual Author Talk for Kids We invite kids to a virtual author talk with G. Neri on Thursday, August 20 at 4 p.m. The year is 1976 and America is throwing its 200th birthday party. What better way to celebrate than with an 8,000-mile road trip across 26 states? G. Neri recalls his family’s real-life trip in a station wagon from California to Washington, D.C. Young Greg is entranced by the variety of accents, strange foods, natural wonders, and historical attractions, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. He meets Civil War reenactors at Gettysburg, protesters in Philadelphia, pioneer wagon riders in Valley Forge, and his own rambunctious family. Please register to receive the Zoom link.

Special Author Event There are still spots available to hear from author Jen Fisher. An authority on workplace wellbeing, Fisher wrote the book, Hope is the Strategy. In it, she makes the case that hope isn’t naive optimism -- it is a practical, learnable skill, built on a sense of agency and the ability to see multiple paths forward that shapes how we lead teams, handle setbacks, and stay whole under pressure. Join us for a conversation to find out what it looks like to build hope as a daily practice. Author Jen Fisher Cupertino Library Monday, August 17 at 7 p.m. Thank you to the Santa Clara County Library District Foundation, the Cupertino Library Foundation, and the Friends of the Cupertino Library for sponsoring this program.
