There's More to the Story During National Library Week! National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role that libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities. This year’s theme is “There’s More to the Story” and will be celebrated through April 29. Libraries are full of stories in different formats – picture books, audiobooks, eBooks and more. However, there is so much more to the story! Libraries also lend items like museum passes and State Park passes. Library programs bring communities together for education, entertainment and connection. Library infrastructure helps communities by providing internet and technology access, literary skills, and support for job seekers and businesses. Make sure to join our online Beanstack challenge to learn more about your local library! Every day this week, we will be highlighting different celebration days: Monday: Right to Read Day is a day to support everyone’s right to read. The State of America’s Libraries Report is released, including the top Frequently Challenged Books of 2022. This week, discover something new from the online library, attend a program, drop by any of our libraries or bookmobile stops to say hi, or give us a call or email us to let us know what you appreciate most about your library. Happy National Library Week and THANK YOU for being our patron.

Explore the Outdoors! Santa Clara County Parks officials anticipate a wildflower super bloom this spring due to this winter’s rainfall. The California poppy, lupine, and buttercups are just a few of the flowers that will be on full display for enthusiasts and recreationalists. Trail users can find the hot spots for the upcoming wildflower array using the ArcGIS system. The dashboard allows people to view the trails in Santa Clara County and summary statistics about them. The recommended County Parks to view the wildflowers are Stiles Ranch Trail at Santa Teresa, Calero, Coyote Lake Harvey Bear, Almaden Quicksilver, and Joseph D. Grant. As an added bonus, our Gilroy and Morgan Hill Libraries carry Nature Daypacks, essential outdoor gear to help you explore the great outdoors! These daypacks also come with a parking voucher that can be used at county parks. Please visit the circulation desks for these items. The Campbell Express and Milpitas Libraries also lend out county park passes. As a reminder, visitors are asked to stay on established trails and avoid walking, laying or standing on the flowers. Parks staff also asks that people practice “pack in, pack out” and to throw trash away properly into the designated receptacles.
