Pride Month This June
LGBTQ+ Pride Month is observed every June in recognition of the Stonewall Uprising, which is considered to be the start of the modern LBGTQ+ rights movement. Local celebrations take place all summer long with San Francisco Pride on June 30, Silicon Valley Pride on August 25, and Oakland Pride on September 8. The County of Santa Clara will host a Pride flag raising ceremony on Thursday, June 27 at 12 p.m. at 70 West Hedding Street in San Jose.

Our libraries will have a variety of in-person programs around Pride Month, including book clubs and film screenings. This includes an author visit with former Santa Clara Supervisor Ken Yeager at the Campbell Express Library on Monday, June 24 for a talk about his journey from being an activist for LGBTQ+ equality to running and serving in elected office.

In addition, we have two online events- an intergenerational LGBTQ+ Speakers Bureau Panel on Thursday, June 20 and a survey of gender-fluid and ambiguously gendered depictions in Asian art across history on Tuesday, June 25. Please register to receive the Zoom links.

And the Winners Are.....
The Eating Disorders Resource Center (EDRC) of Silicon Valley has announced the winners of the 15th annual Be-You-Tiful multimedia contest.

Bay Area students were invited to submit pieces that explored how social media and the world around them influences self-perception.
View 2024 winners and their entries on the Be-You-Tiful, Be Free Contest page.

The EDRC aims to promote self and body acceptance, increase media literacy, and empower youth to challenge harmful diet culture ideals head-on, all of which can play a pivotal role in preventing the onset of eating disorders among younger generations.
