Exercise Your Freedom to Read Celebrate Banned Books Week from September 27 to October 3. Since 1982, this annual event has brought together reading communities in support of the freedom to seek and express ideas and perspectives. Books help readers of all ages learn about new worlds and experiences, and the Library supports intellectual freedom with a diverse and extensive collection. Find your next great book at the Library!

Virtual Author Visit: Francisco Jiménez Author and educator, Francisco Jiménez emigrated with his family from Mexico to California, and as a child worked alongside his parents in the fields. On Saturday, October 3, hear how his personal experiences of growing up in a family of migrant workers help shape his writing in books like The Circuit, Breaking Through, and Reaching Out.

U.S. Census Count Ending, Make Sure You Are Counted! The U.S. Census Bureau is ending counting efforts on September 30, so it’s important to get the word out that it is not too late to complete the questionnaire. The Census will allocate billions of dollars in federal funding to local communities. if you haven’t completed the Census questionnaire, you can do it online or by calling 844-330-2020. Please reach out to your friends and family to make sure that that they don't miss out on being counted this time.

Free Flu Shots Available The County of Santa Clara is offering free flu shots through mid-December. They are available every Saturday at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, located at 2542 Monterey Road in San José, and all Valley Medical Center clinics and pharmacies. Flu shots are especially important this year, with COVID-19 in the community. Learn more on the Public Health website, including additional vaccination distribution dates and locations.

Join the Library with an Instant Free eCard If you live in Santa Clara County and do not have a library card with the Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD), or would like additional household members to have their own library accounts, the instant free eCard is for you. On a temporary basis during the COVID-19 crisis, eCards are available to all residents who live within Santa Clara County with a valid residential mailing address (P.O. Box not accepted).
