Celebrating Dolly Parton's Legacy
The State of California has proclaimed 9-2-5, September 25, as Dolly Parton Day. This day is meant to pay tribute to the global icon and champion of early literacy who passed away last month at the age of 80. The specific day, 9/25, pays homage to the film “9 to 5” which starred Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

Leading up to the day, several of our libraries are hosting free events. This includes film screenings of “9 to 5” at Cupertino and Gilroy Libraries. Patrons can stop by the Saratoga Library’s children's desk to get materials to decorate butterflies which will adorn the children’s room. Several libraries will feature books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library during storytime.

The Dollywood Foundation is marking 9/25 as “Give Like Dolly Day,” encouraging people to support children and communities like Dolly did. One of Parton's most successful ventures was Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which gifts free books to children ages 0-5.

Since it was implemented in Santa Clara County last October, 22,700 local children have signed up to receive a free book every month. We have delivered 170,000 books and counting! We want to thank everyone who has supported this program and invite all Santa Clara County residents to sign up if you have a child under five.

The Santa Clara County Library District Foundation also accepts donations to the Imagination Library to gift books to even more children in our County. Your generosity helps bring the joy of reading into homes, spark imaginations and create special moments between children and the people who love them. Learn more about the Imagination Library on our website.

Improved Search and Browse for Online Library Resources
We are busy making improvements to our Online Library! You may have noticed that the A-Z Resources list just got a major upgrade: A new search box as well as subject and format filters now offer more ways to find online resources, and larger letters make it easier to browse alphabetically. Next month will bring a second update that will streamline the Online Library menu.

On Friday, October 16 the Subject and Format pages will retire, and the menu will start sending you directly to these sections in the A-Z Resources list. You will still be able to explore online resources by subject and format! You can also combine multiple subjects and formats to find exactly what you need. Log in with your library card for eBooks, newspapers, streaming movies, online learning, and more!
