A GOAL-den Opportunity for Library Card Sign Up Month: Limited Edition San Jose Sharks x SCCLD Library Card Coming Soon!
Every September, Library Card Sign-Up Month is celebrated at libraries nationwide. We want to make sure every child, teen and adult has their very own library card. A library account is a free but at the same time, priceless tool that can help people belong, connect and discover.

Between our libraries, bookmobile service, and Online Library, our 2+ million-item collection includes books, eBooks, audiobooks, movies, music, video games, digital magazines and newspapers, a Library of Things, homework help, meditation, craft resources, and more.

A library card is all you need to check out county and state parks passes or the Discover & Go pass to get into Bay Area museums and galleries free. Connect with others at our many programs & activities for all ages. Five of our libraries are also Passport Acceptance Facilities. We have Community Outreach Specialists on staff, to help connect residents to much-needed social services and resources for food, housing, medical, legal, and job assistance.

A free SCCLD library card is valid at any of our eight locations, the Bookmobile, and the entire Online Library. Do you know someone who needs a library card? Find SCCLD library card applications here or stop by any of our libraries.

On Tuesday, September 1, we are unveiling TWO brand new San Jose Sharks x SCCLD Library Cards which will be available at all SCCLD libraries and the Bookmobile. Existing patrons can update their account with these limited edition designs.

We are celebrating this partnership with a special event at Cupertino Library on Tuesday, September 8 at 4 p.m. Join us for stories, giveaways and a special guest from the San Jose Sharks!

Labor Day: The Last Hurrah of Summer
Labor Day marks the unofficial end to summer, coming three weeks before the season ends and autumn begins. Many people take advantage of the long weekend to get away, enjoy the weather, or spend time with friends and family at a barbecue.

Santa Clara County Library District libraries will be closed and services unavailable on Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day.

Our Online Library is always available for eBooks, Audiobooks, and streaming services such as Kanopy and Freegal. Kanopy is offering a Labor Day Collection for its users on September 1 featuring thoughtfully curated films and television series making it the perfect complement to the holiday weekend.

Stop by the library to find other ways to mark Labor Day. Enjoy the outdoors with free County and State Park Passes and visit one of 26 regional county parks or more than 200 State Parks. Grill up something tasty with one of these barbecue cookbooks.

Opioid Overdose Prevention Programs
There are two more opportunities for the community to learn about, recognize, and respond to a possible opioid overdose. The knowledge could help save a life.

This training, done in partnership with Santa Clara County Public Health, teaches participants how to recognize an opioid overdose and how to safely administer the nasal spray Naloxone (also known as Narcan).

Participants who complete this one-hour training will be given a free limited number of Naloxone dosages (while supplies last).

Woodland Library Terrace and Native Habitat Now Open
The Woodland Library Terrace and Native Habitat is now open for community use.
Designed for families, students and neighbors, the terrace is a welcoming space to read, study and gather at Woodland Library.

Neighbors will enjoy the shaded areas with tables and umbrellas, areas for chalk activities and games, and a native garden designed and created by GreenTown Los Altos.

A special thank you to the Los Altos Library Endowment for the generous contribution, donations, and collaboration, which makes this project possible. Thank you to the City of Los Altos for creating a shared community destination that supports learning and connection beyond walls.
Momentous Occasion at Saratoga Library
County Librarian Jennifer Weeks recently welcomed a delegation of city and library staff from New Taipei City, Taiwan.

Expanding upon the existing Friendship City relationships between New Taipei City and both Saratoga and Cupertino, the library district signed a Memorandum of Understanding to encourage a collaboration between the two library systems.

“Both SCCLD and the New Taipei City Library believe that libraries are lifelong learning environments that are welcoming to all,” Weeks said. “We are excited to learn and exchange culture, education and ideas with each other through materials and cultural programming.”
