Mindfulness in Minutes SCCLD patrons can use the mindfulness app, Headspace, for free. If you are not familiar with Headspace, it offers more than 1,000 hours of themed meditation sessions on a wide variety of topics. There is also mindful movement co-created with Nike and sleep guidance. Headspace can also be very helpful for children. There are short meditations that can help children with big emotions like frustration and disappointment, breathing exercises, and learning about generosity, appreciation, calm and balance. In addition, there’s a sleep toolkit which features stories with beloved Sesame Street characters and sleepcasts, which are ever-changing stories in a range of soothing voices. This is a great resource for both education and entertainment, and includes the National Geographic Kids magazine, books, images, and more.

Navigating College Admissions As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to revolutionize various industries, the college admissions process is no exception. We invite teens and their families to a special Silicon Valley Reads program: Navigating College Admissions in the AI Era. Gain insight into AI’s role in college admissions, the future of college admissions, ethical considerations in AI-driven admissions, preparing for the AI era, and the broader impact of AI on higher education. Food as Medicine March is National Nutrition Month, highlighting the importance of making informed food choices and developing good eating habits. Several of our libraries are hosting a special program, Food as Medicine: Gut Health Basics with Elizabeth Greenfield. She will discuss how food can be used as medicine to support digestive health, reduce inflammation, and improve vitality. She will also share healthy meal planning strategies to make gut-nourishing foods a regular part of your routine. Silicon Valley Reads: Learn About Vintage Technology Retro Roadshow is a pop-up museum that features vintage technology like historically-significant computers and video game consoles. Their mission is to preserve history by creating hands-on opportunities that explore the connections between the past and present, via STEAM-focused exhibitions and customized interactive presentations. Join us at one these presentations: “Tales from the Orchard” is an exploration of Apple’s history and its far-reaching influence. Embark on an interactive journey through the history of Apple and several notable spin-off companies. Following the presentation, enjoy a hands-on experience with a variety of functional vintage computers, including classic Apple II and Macintosh systems, and more. Cupertino Library: March 15 at 2 p.m. Milpitas Library: March 30 at 2 p.m. “Mario Through the Ages” is an exploration of video game art history.
