Plant a Seed This Summer Our Summer Reading program, Plant a Seed, Read, is about growing and learning with the library. But it is much more than that! We want to give patrons the opportunity to sprout new ideas – and plants! We have a number of books and free programs to help cultivate a green thumb. This booklist features titles on growing plants from seeds. Additionally, these books will introduce you to the incredible world of plants, improve your gardening skills and try new recipes. Teen Bookmark Contest Teens ages 12-19 are invited to design and submit a bookmark with the theme “Plant a Seed, Read.” All winning bookmarks will be reproduced and distributed in the libraries. Deadline to submit is July 31. Winners will be notified by August 31. |
Submission Period Now Open The Poet Laureate is an honorary post that acts as an advocate for poetry, literature, and the arts, taking part in public readings and participating in civic events. Applications will be accepted from July 6 – August 14, 2026, using SVCREATES’s online portal: SVCREATES.org/Poet-Laureate Eligibility criteria and core duties for the Santa Clara County Poet Laureate can be found on our website, along with details about the application process. |
Online Art Talk: Gods and Monsters There’s a treasure trove of stories and legends left behind from ancient Greek and Roman times. These are timeless tales filled with all-powerful gods like Venus and Apollo, fearless heroes like Hercules, as well as mighty Amazon warriors and deadly monsters. These myths inspired artists for thousands of years and are brought to life within the collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. |

Improve English Listening and Speaking SkillsMany of our community libraries offer Conversation Clubs for people learning English. This is a great opportunity to make new friends and practice their English listening and speaking skills in a supportive environment. Santa Clara County Parks' Junior Ranger ProgramSanta Clara County Parks invites kids aged 7-12 to become a junior ranger. There are both in-person and virtual programs to get kids to connect with nature. They can earn a Santa Clara County Junior Ranger badge after attending at least three programs. All activities are free. Your four-legged family member can also get in on the fun becoming a BARK Ranger! The library also offers free passes to county and state parks. Place a hold on a County or State park pass with your full-access library card. |
